  11. This release contains several fixes for numerous NLM(TM) files in
  12. the NetWare MultiProtocol Router 3.0 release. Various problems
  13. with TCP/IP, AppleTalk, IPXRTR, PPP, or BRIDGE are addressed. 
  14. Actual problems and solutions are detailed under the Solution
  15. Specific section of this technical information document. 
  16. Supports both NetWare 3.12 and 4.10 servers.

  80. Installation Instructions:

  82. 1. Backup each NLM, MSG, SCR, MDC, and LAN file.
  83.  
  84.  2. Copy the new NLM, SCR, MDC, and LAN files to the SYS:\SYSTEM
  85. directory.
  86.  
  87.  For NetWare 3.12, copy LLC8022.NLM from the 3X subdirectory into
  88. the SYS:\SYSTEM directory. 
  89.  
  90.  For NetWare 4.1, copy LLC8022.NLM from the 4X subdirectoy into
  91. the SYS:\SYSTEM directory.

  93.  3. Copy the new MSG files to the SYS:\SYSTEM\NLS\4 directory.

  96.  Solution Specifics:
  97.  
  98.  AppleTalk:
  99.  Resolves problems resulting in a hung or aborted print job for
  100. applications using the AppleTalk 3.x APIs.
  101.  
  102.  Fixes a problem that might cause an invalid DDP checksum of
  103. 0xFFFF to be transmitted when DDP checksums are enabled.
  104.  
  105.  AURP:
  106.  Now waits up to 5 minutes for transmissions to complete before
  107. unloading.  This prevents a server from abending because
  108. transmissions are still pending when AURP is unloaded.
  109.  
  110.  ADSP:
  111.  Corrects a problem where a NetWare 4.10 server abended because
  112. ADSP released an invalid memory resource.
  113.  
  114.  BRIDGE,BRGLANM and PARSER:
  115.  Allows bridging to work concurrently over X.25 and Frame Relay.
  116.  
  117.  DMGMT:
  118.  Corrects an abend on Pentium* processors.
  119.  
  120.  INETCFG:
  121.  Improves support of NetWare for Macintosh load commands when
  122. converting to the INETCFG database.
  123.  
  124.  IPXCFG:
  125.  Corrects a problem where the frame type is set incorrectly for
  126. IPX if the default is not selected.
  127.  
  128.  IPXRTR:
  129.  Corrects a problem with load balancing.  If you want to use load
  130. balancing, set the Maximum Number of Path Splits parameter under
  131. the Expert IPX Protocol Options to a value greater than 1.  A new
  132. SET command has been added for additional configuration of load
  133. balancing when a server has multiple bindings to the same LAN
  134. without going through a router.  The syntax of the new SET
  135. command is as follows:

  137.  SET LOAD BALANCE LOCAL LAN = <OFF/ON>
  138.  
  139.  The default state is OFF.
  140.  
  141.  This SET command should be used in the following instances:
  142.  
  143.  - Turn on load balancing if a server is connected to a LAN
  144. through multiple interfaces and the interfaces are either on the
  145. same media or attached to different ports of a switch.
  146.  
  147.  - Turn off load balancing if a server has multiple interfaces to
  148. two segments of the same LAN that is also bridged.
  149.  
  150.  NOTE: The values 0, -1, and -2 are reserved and should never be
  151. assigned as IPX network numbers.
  152.  
  153.  Corrects a problem where the SAP from a print server was not
  154. aged out if RIP and SAP were operating in AUTO mode.
  155.  
  156.  Prevents an abend that occurs if an SPX application sends a
  157. packet to the internal network and load balancing for the local
  158. LAN is turned on using the SET command described above.
  159.  
  160.  Adds a feature that enables NLSP to switch automatically from
  161. broadcast to multicast when all NLSP nodes on the LAN support
  162. multicast.
  163.  
  164.  Corrects a problem where wildcard filters were applied
  165. inappropriately to the source of the packet to all interfaces.
  166.  
  167.  Corrects the handling of the Get Nearest Server request so that
  168. it does not respond with the nearest Directory Server if the SET
  169. REPLY TO GET NEAREST SERVER option is off.  IPXRTR does not allow
  170. static routes or services to be added to a link that is not using
  171. static routing.

  173.  IPXRTRNM:
  174.  Corrects a problem where IPXRTRNM abended on NetWare for
  175. Windows.
  176.  
  177.  IPXCON:
  178.  Corrects a problem where IPXCON was not displaying a level 2
  179. neighbor.
  180.  
  181.  LLC8022:
  182.  Provides LAN Network Manager (LNM) functionality.
  183.  
  184.  NOTE: Before you install any NetWare for SAA patches, check the
  185. current version of LLC8022.  Be sure to make a backup of LLC8022
  186. before installing any NetWare for SAA patches.  (Some SAA patches
  187. incorrectly overwrite newer versions of LLC8022. If this happens,
  188. restore from the backup.)
  189.  
  190.  MPRSCRPT:
  191.  Allows device management simulation of the RS-232 Data Set Ready
  192. (DSR) status signal when Multitech modems are used with PPP.
  193.  
  194.  PPPTSM:
  195.  Optimizes inbound call processing for bridging.
  196.  
  197.  Updates the PacketLen and PacketSize fields in receive ECBs.
  198.  
  199.  Preserves registers within a PPPTSM data compression routine.
  200.  
  201.  Complies with the NetWare ODI specification for TSMs.
  202.  
  203.  SYNCPLUS:
  204.  Prevents an unusual transmit deadlock following frequent PPP
  205. dial operations using asynchronous modems.
  206.  
  207.  Allows the SYNCPLUS driver to load on NetWare for Windows.
  208.  
  209.  TCP/IP:
  210.  Corrects a problem with directed broadcasts that caused
  211. broadcasts to be forwarded in only one direction.
  212.  
  213.  Allows routes learned from SNMP to be advertised by the IP
  214. routing protocol.
  215.  
  216.  Fixes intermittent abends when CALLMGR is used to bring up an
  217. on-demand IP call.
  218.  
  219.  Fixes a problem that caused an abend when TCP/IP header
  220. compression is enabled on a media that does not support header
  221. compression.  TCP/IP header compression is supported only on PPP.
  222.  
  223.  Fixes a problem with route filter exceptions.  Depending on the
  224. order in which the filters were set, an exception could be
  225. ignored.
  226.  
  227.  Fixes a problem that might cause a page fault if a TCP or UDP
  228. stream is aborted while data is in transmission.
  229.  
  230.  Adds error checking to reject a remote route to the local
  231. address from another router across a WAN point-to-point link.
  232.  
  233.  WHSMAIO:
  234.  Corrects a potential interoperability problem caused by using
  235. the same character map for both transmit and receive processing. 
  236. PPP now assigns the transmit and receive asynchronous control
  237. character maps independently.
  238.  
  239.  NW2000:
  240.  Adds logic to prevent a potential board lockup on some
  241. platforms.  This problem is more likely on computers with a
  242. triflex bus running under heavy load.
