This application note details how to send a message from your
NetWare MHS-compatible applications to a CompuServe Mail address.
Sending messages from NetWare MHS to CompuServe Mail.
Through the CompuServe Mail Hub, you can send messages to any
CompuServe Mail address, in addition to exchanging them with
other NetWare MHS sites around the world. Simply enter the
special NetWare MHS address MAIL @ CSERVE and put the CompuServe
Mail address in the Foreign Address Field to take advantage of
this feature.
When CompuServe receives a message addressed to MAIL @ CSERVE the
Foreign Address Field is examined to determine the actual
destination.
In the Foreign Address Field you enter the recipient just as you
would at the CompuServe Mail Send to: prompt. For example, if
you want to send a message from your NetWare MHS application to a
CompuServe Information Service member, enter the NetWare MHS
address:
MAIL @ CSERVE
and in the Foreign Address Field enter the member's User Id:
70003,9
Although some NetWare MHS-compatible applications do not provide
direct support for the Foreign Address Field, it may be accepted
where you normally enter addresses. After the special MAIL @
CSERVE, put the CompuServe Mail address within braces. There is
no guarantee this will work in your application, but since it is
acceptable in some applications it is probably worth trying. For
intance, you may enter the following at the TO: or CC: prompt in
your NetWare MHS-compatible application:
MAIL @ CSERVE {70003,9}
Through the CompuServe Mail Hub, you can also send to users of
private CompuServe Mail systems provided to many companies and
other organizations. The Foreign Address Field is used as
outlined above to contain an address of the form:
>ORG:address
Where "ORG" represents the organization's unique mail system
identifier and "address" is the user's mailbox name. Please
contact the recipient to find out (a) the CompuServe identifier
for the organization and (b) the address for the individual
within the organization.
To locate a workgroup that is registered on the CompuServe Mail
Hub, log on the CompuServe using a terminal emulation package and
enter GO MHS. You are presented with a menu. The second option
of the menu allows you to search the directory of registered
users.
If the workgroup does not appear in the list, that workgroup may
still be registered on the CompuServe Mail Hub, but it was
decided to not have their workgroup listed in the directory. If
you cannot find the address you may have to call the person to
get the address and see if they are registered on the CompuServe
Mail Hub.
To find a CompuServe member's User Id number, log on to
CompuServe using a terminal emulation package and enter GO
DIRECT. You are then presented with a menu to locate the User ID
in question.
