  31.      When accessing files across the network, an application generates the
  32.      following message:

  46.      User's desiring to turn off printer status popup boxes were unable to do
  47.      so.

  52.      Apply the specific files included in this patch as instructed by a Novell
  53.      Support technician.

  77.      Update:   A file that has a .PAT extension and defines changes to a
  78.                software program.
  79.  
  80.      Target file:   A file with an .EXE extension that is to be modified by an
  81.                     update.
  82.  
  83.      UPATCH:   Universal Update Program.  A program that applies updates to
  84.                target files.
  85.  
  86.           NOTE:     UPATCH.EXE is shipped with NetWare Lite 1.1 and the
  87.                     NetWare Lite 1.1 Upgrade kit.
  88.  
  89.      GENERAL INFORMATION
  90.  
  91.      You need only one diskette to update all copies of NetWare Lite on your
  92.      NetWare Lite network.  You do not need a separate diskette for each copy
  93.      of NetWare Lite.
  94.  
  95.      Make backup copies of the files before running UPATCH.  Do not update the
  96.      original NetWare Lite Program and Driver diskette files.
  97.  
  98.      If a machine has a hard disk with NetWare Lite software, the files to be
  99.      updated are in the C:\NWLITE directory.
  100.  
  101.      If a machine does not have a hard disk, the files to be updated are on
  102.      the workstation's floppy diskette that has the NetWare Lite CLIENT.EXE.
  103.  
  104.      To get consistent results from the network, use UPATCH to update all
  105.      copies of NetWare Lite on the network (all servers and clients).  If a
  106.      server or client is not updated, it will continue with the erratic
  107.      behavior that the update is designed to correct.
  108.  
  109.      Review the section of this document that corresponds to the update to
  110.      find out what the update does.  Each section describes what the update
  111.      will be applied to, the update date, the checksums, the problems the
  112.      update corrects, and the symptoms you may see before the update is
  113.      applied.
  114.  
  115.      You can use UPATCH to apply updates before or after running NetWare Lite;
  116.      however, the changes do not take effect until the computer is rebooted
  117.      and the updated files are loaded into memory.
  118.  
  119.      UPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
  120.  
  121.      To update the SERVER or CLIENT software on a hard disk, do the following:
  122.  
  123.      1.   Copy the .PAT files into the NWLITE directory on the C: drive.
  124.  
  125.      2.   To apply the update to the applicable target file, type
  126.  
  127.           UPATCH <Enter>
  128.  
  129.      3.   When the DOS prompt appears, reboot the computer.  The updated files
  130.           will be used when they are loaded into memory.
  131.  
  132.      To update CLIENT software on a workstation that uses a floppy diskette,
  133.      do the following:
  134.  
  135.      1.   Insert the diskette (w/updates) in to the A: drive. (The floppy
  136.           should contain the .PAT files and UPATCH.EXE.)
  137.  
  138.      2.   Insert the workstation's copy of the diskette that contains
  139.           CLIENT.EXE into the B: drive.  Do not update the original NetWare
  140.           Lite diskettes.
  141.  
  142.      3.   At the DOS prompt, type
  143.  
  144.           A: <Enter>
  145.  
  146.      4.   Then, type the following:
  147.  
  148.           UPATCH B:CLIENT.EXE <Enter>
  149.  
  150.      5.   Follow the instructions on the screen.
  151.  
  152.           NOTE:     The updates are applied to the CLIENT.EXE file and the
  153.                     original file is retained with an .OLD file extension.  If
  154.                     necessary, the .OLD version can be renamed and executed.
  155.  
  156.      6.   When the DOS prompt appears, reboot the computer.  The updated
  157.           CLIENT.EXE file will be used when it is loaded into memory.

  162.      support issues, NetWare Lite product information, etc., customers in the

  164.      access this service, dial (800) NETWARE [(800)638-9273] and press the
  165.      star (*) key during the recorded message.

  178.           Symptoms: When accessing files across the network, an application
  179.                     generates the following message:

  188.  
  189.                This patch inserts code that was removed from NetWare Lite 1.0
  190.                that handles FCB opens.  This patch should not be used with
  191.                Windows or CD-ROM disks.

  193.      PCONSOLE.PAT - NetWare Lite Server printer popup box patch.
  194.  
  195.      Target:        SERVER.EXE
  196.  
  197.      Desc:          This patch allows the popup box for printer status to be
  198.                     turned on or off.  After the patch is applied and the
  199.                     popup box is turned off, the popup box will never be seen
  200.                     again unless the patch is applied again, the popup box is
  201.                     turned back on, and the server reloaded.  Therefore, there
  202.                     is no documented way to determine the printer status. 
  203.                     However, using ALT-SHIFT-N and selecting option 3 will
  204.                     give the printer status.  This printer status may not
  205.                     always reflect the current printer status.  The amount of
  206.                     time for the printer status to change will depend upon the
  207.                     error wait time defined for the network printer.
  208.  
  209.           Symptoms: User's desiring to turn off printer status popup boxes
  210.                     were unable to do so.
  211.  
  212.           Example:  The printer is offline and the operator puts it back
  213.                     online.  If ALT-SHIFT-N is displayed, it will take an
  214.                     average of 15 seconds before the display is updated
  215.                     properly.
  216.  
  217.           NOTE:     This functionality is for unattended server operation,
  218.                     possibly where an application or a batch job that cannot
  219.                     be stopped that is running in the foreground.  NetWare
  220.                     Lite is designed to inform the operator of the printer
  221.                     status and by applying this patch, that functionality is
  222.                     defeated.  The printer operator, without this
  223.                     functionality, has no notification of printer status that
  224.                     will attract attention.

  226.      STACKFIX.PAT - NetWare Lite Server stack fix patch.
  227.  
  228.      Target:        SERVER.EXE
  229.      Checksums:     558, 481, 3F0
  230.  
  231.           Problem:  The server switches to its DOS reentrency stack during
  232.                     initialization.  The Norton antivirus device driver
  233.                     interrupts the server after initialization and does some
  234.                     work.  The server timer interrupt then kicks in, switches
  235.                     to the top of the server DOS reentrency stack and corrupts
  236.                     the data that the server had on the stack before the timer
  237.                     interrupt.
  238.  
  239.           Symptoms: When the Norton antivirus device driver is loaded and
  240.                     SERVER.EXE attempts to load, the server will hang.
  241.
