  16. The LOADER.DAT file is intended for dedicated NetWare v2.1x, v2.2 servers. 
  17. The file fixes a conflict found between the NetWare operating system and
  18. the IBM PS/2 Enhanced 80386 Memory Expansion Option 2 MB and 4 MB Kit.

  39. This README file of IBMMEM.ZIP accompanies LOADER.DAT.
  40.  
  41. Purpose:
  42. This LOADER.DAT is intended for NetWare v2.1x, v2.2 (dedicated server
  43. versions), and fixes a conflict found between the NetWare OS and the IBM
  44. PS/2 Enhanced 80386 Memory Expansion Option 2MB and 4MB Kit.

  49.      *   Both the 2 and 4MB versions of the memory card can also
  50.          be identified by the same card sub assembly part number
  51.          (located on the back of the card near the metal bracket).

  53. This IBM card sub assembly part number is as follows:
  54. p/n 49F5507-on adapters manufactured before July 1, 1990
  55. p/n 87F9819-on adapters manufactured on or after July 1, 1990
  56.  
  57. This patch replaces the old patch IBMMEM.ZIP (910226) and fixes two
  58. potential issues:
  59.  
  60. 1.   The file server will be unable to boot from the hard drive if NetWare
  61. version 2.1x or 2.2 is installed before the IBM Memory Expansion Option is
  62. installed in the system.  The IBM Memory Expansion Option software will
  63. overwrite the NetWare cold boot loader stored at Track 0 on a file server.
  64.  
  65. 2.   The file server will not recognize the IBM Expansion Option if the IBM
  66. Memory Expansion Option is installed before NetWare version 2.1x or 2.2 is
  67. installed in the system.  NetWare version 2.1x or 2.2 will overwrite the
  68. IBM Memory Expansion Option software necessary to recognize the adapter. 
  69. You may receive the statement "Error Loading User Device" and then the
  70. system may boot to BASIC.

  72. Installation:
  73. 1)   Make a backup copy of the @FDDF.ADF file found on the IBM Enhanced
  74. 80386 Memory Option diskette.  Copy the file that is supplied, @FDDF.NOV,
  75. to the @FDDF.ADF file on this Option diskette.  Install the IBM Enhanced
  76. 80386 Memory Option.

  78. 2)   Make a backup copy of the existing LOADER.DAT in the NETGEN directory
  79. (2.1x), or the SYSTEM-1 directory (2.2).  Copy the new LOADER.DAT file that
  80. is supplied to the old LOADER.DAT.
  81.  
  82. 3)   a) In v2.1x, run "NETGEN  --NC" to set new and custom options. At the
  83. NetWare Installation Menu screen,  select the "Custom Installation" option.
  84.  Select the "Miscellaneous Maintenance" and "Load the Operating System." 
  85. Answer "Yes" to the "Fix System Drive Table" option.  Escape to the NetWare
  86. Installation Menu screen, and select the "Install Networking Software on
  87. File Server" option.  Respond "Yes" to "Install the Cold Boot Loader."

  89.      b) In v2.2, for existing systems, select "Maintain  Existing System"
  90. option.  At the "Actions to be Performed" menu, do not select the ZTEST
  91. option. First select the "Load NetWare v2.2 OS" option.  Then select
  92. "Replace Track Zero Information."  This will install the new loader to
  93. track zero. Press F10 to exit. The message "Installed cold boot loader"
  94. should appear.

  96. 4)   Reboot and bring up the server.
