  32. SYMPTOM:

  34. This new APPLETLK NLM includes several fixes and enhancements
  35. including the following:
  36.  
  37.  == Router Enhancements ==
  38.  
  39.  (1) We resolved a problem in which the sender's network number
  40. in the first two bytes of the RTMP data portion was byte-swapped
  41. in all but the first packet of responses that required more than
  42. one packet.  This problem was caused by a condition in a Phase 1
  43. network, in which a node that learned its network number by
  44. broadcasting RTMP requests could be dynamically configured with
  45. the wrong network number. The sender's network number is now set
  46. correctly when multiple RTMP data packets are sent in response to
  47. an RTMP router data request.
  48.  
  49.  (2) In a previous release of APPLETLK.NLM, the last zone name of
  50. one reply packet and the first zone name of a subsequent reply
  51. packet for a multi-packet reply could be duplicated if routers
  52. without zones appeared  in the routing table. Duplicate zones
  53. names sometimes appeared in the Chooser. This problem should no
  54. longer occur.
  55.  
  56.  (3) We fixed a problem in which LOAD and BIND commands could
  57. fail when zone names included leading, trailing, or embedded
  58. spaces, or when certain keywords were used in the BIND or LOAD
  59. command line. LOAD and BIND commands with LOAD or BIND command
  60. line keywords are now allowed. LOAD commands that use zone names
  61. with leading or embedded spaces are now allowed; however, on the
  62. LOAD command line, the quotation marks in the zone name cannot be
  63. preceded with a space.  For example, zone={ "MYZONE"} and
  64. zone={"MYZONE "} are NOT allowed. BIND commands that use zone
  65. names with leading, trailing or embedded spaces are now allowed.

  67.  (4) Previously, the AppleTalk router advertised itself as a
  68. NetWare router through NBP using the name "NetWare AppleTalk
  69. Stack/Router" instead of the actual server name. Now the
  70. AppleTalk router correctly advertises itself as "<server name>:
  71. NetWare Router @ <zone name>."
  72.  
  73.  (5) The periodic CPU utilization peaks caused by RTMP as
  74. observed on slower machines on large internets has been fixed. 
  75. Formerly, the CPU utilization as seen in the Monitor utility went
  76. up to almost 100% about every 10 seconds. This is no longer the
  77. case.
  78.  
  79.  (6) The message informing you that an RTMP router has gone down
  80. has been changed from a warning message to an informational
  81. message. It no longer appears on the console screen by default.

  83.  == Stack Enhancements ==
  84.  
  85.  (1) We resolved a problem with the AppleTalk protocols in which
  86. some users reported difficulties maintaining idle ADSP
  87. connections.  In the previous release of the APPLETLK.NLM,
  88. applications such as NetWare for SAA, NetWare SQL, and some
  89. third-party applications could lose their ADSP connections if the
  90. application did not receive transmitted data after a couple of
  91. minutes. For example, a backup application lost its ADSP
  92. connection to the Macintosh during the time it took to change a
  93. tape cartridge on the backup device. In this new release of
  94. APPLETLK.NLM, this problem should not occur.

  96.  (2) Previously, AFP sessions would hang under certain limited
  97. conditions. An ASP ATP request was checked to determine that it
  98. came from the correct remote endpoint. If this check failed for
  99. any reason, AppleTalk disregarded subsequent requests, causing
  100. the AFP session to hang. This problem was fixed in version 3.06
  101. of the APPLETLK.NLM and should not occur in the latest release.

  103.  == SNMP Support Enhancements ==
  104.  
  105.  (1) APPLETLK.NLM now loads SNMP.NLM v2.08 (the SNMP agent, which
  106. is included with the NetWare 3.12 operating system) when
  107. APPLETLK.NLM itself is initialized. This enhancement means that
  108. ATLKSNMP.NLM, provided with NetWare for Macintosh v3.011, is no
  109. longer required and is not included in NetWare for Macintosh
  110. v3.12.

  112.  == ATCON.NLM Enhancements ==
  113.  
  114.  (1) The ATCON module now combines Router Statistics and Stack
  115. Statistics.  The AppleTalk Statistics information includes both a
  116. router counter and a stack counter.
  117.  
  118.  (2) ATCON now reflects NBP registration for the AppleTalk
  119. protocols. The NBP type of the stack is "NetWare AppleTalk
  120. Server."

  141. Installation Instructions:
  142.  
  143. 1. Rename APPLTLK.NLM, SNMP.NLM, NWSNUT.NLM and ATCON.NLM to
  144. their respective names with a .OLD extension (e.g. *.OLD).
  145.  2. Copy the new files included in this compressed file to
  146. SYS:SYSTEM.
  147.  3. Down the server and reboot, or unload and reload each of 
  148. these NLMs as you would from the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
