  13. This version of DSREPAIR version 2.23e has features which makes
  14. it a useful tool to check a 4.0x NDS database before upgrading to
  15. NetWare 4.10.  To gain optimal 4.10 NDS performance, it is best
  16. to check for possible NDS databases inconsistencies before
  17. upgrading.  Although this step is optional, running DSREPAIR
  18. before upgrading ensures that NetWare 4.10 will perform as
  19. designed.  For this reason, we suggest that you run this version
  20. of DSREPAIR on every 4.0x server before you upgrade.  Please read
  21. accompanying DOC files for additional explanation.

  41. This version of DSREPAIR has features which makes it a useful
  42. tool to check a 4.0x NDS database before upgrading to NetWare
  43. 4.10.  To gain optimal 4.10 NDS performance, it is best to check
  44. for possible NDS databases inconsistencies
  45.  before upgrading.  Although this step is optional, running
  46. DSREPAIR before upgrading ensures that NetWare 4.10 will perform

  53.  NEWER FEATURES OF DSREPAIR
  54.      
  55.  The following is a summary of some of the features in this
  56. version of DSREPAIR that has proven useful to some of our
  57. customers.  It is hoped that this version of DSREPAIR will allow
  58. the user to more quickly resolve possible issues.  As you may
  59. notice, some of these features have been in previous versions of
  60. DSREPAIR.
  61.  
  62.  - Command line switch  "/8"  will load and automatically run
  63. option 8 - "Verify Backlinks and External References".
  64.     
  65.  - Bad volume ID's:  Bad volume ID's are characterized by volumes
  66. not seen as a Directory Service (DS) object, or is seen as the
  67. wrong DS object, when using the map command.  If the volume ID is
  68. wrong DSREPAIR will delete the ID thus preparing the way of a
  69. re-install of the volume object.  The volume ID will only be
  70. verified if "check file system for valid trustee ID's" is
  71. selected.  To invoke this option, make sure that there is an
  72. asterisk is next to option 6 in the options menu (the asterisk
  73. selects the option).  Before re-installing the volume object,
  74. delete the current volume object that is bad.  To reinstall the
  75. volume object use the UPGRADE MOUNTED VOLUMES option in
  76. INSTALL.NLM.
  77.      
  78.  - Duplicate Time Stamps:  No two objects should have the same
  79. time stamp.  If DSREPAIR does find objects with the same time
  80. stamp, delete and recreate one of the objects.  Running DSREPAIR
  81. with any combination of options will test for duplicate time
  82. stamps.  It should be noted that duplicate creation time stamps
  83. are extremely rare in NetWare 4.0x and virtually  impossible in
  84. NetWare 4.10.
  85.      
  86.  - Same name Siblings:  With NetWare 4.x, objects with duplicate
  87. names of different types are allowed, in NetWare 4.10 they are
  88. not; this is for simplified use.  For example, if a user and a
  89. container have the same name and are siblings, NetWare 4.10 will
  90. not resolve names properly.  The leaf object should be deleted or
  91. renamed before you upgrade.  This version of DSREPAIR will find
  92. siblings of the same name for you.  Running DSREPAIR with any
  93. combination of options will test for duplicate time stamps.

  95.  - External references:  External references should be properly
  96. backlinked before you upgrade.  To verify external references
  97. choose option "8" from the main menu in DSREPAIR.  External
  98. references that do not properly match the real object will be
  99. identified.  If any improper external references are found,
  100. remove the server from the tree and re-install it.

  103.  OTHER UPGRADE HINTS
  104.  
  105.  Please read the errata that is found in the found in the NetWare
  106. 4.10 box.  It is also important that you read, understand, and
  107. follow the README.41 file. Install lets you read this document
  108. but if you bypass it or would like to review it this ASCII text
  109. file is found in the \NW410\INSTALL\ENGLISH\README directory on
  110. the 4.10 CDROM.   This document covers important limitations of
  111. having a mixed 4.0x/4.10 tree.  You need to remember that until
  112. all the servers in the NDS tree are running NetWare 4.10, you
  113. will not benefit from the increased speed, reliability, or
  114. features 4.10.  For this reason you should upgrade all of yours
  115. NDS servers as quickly as possible.

  130. ** NOTE **   Always make a backup copy of original files.

  132.   1.   Flag DSRepair.NLM located in the SYS:SYSTEM subdirectory
  133. to normal or RW.
  134.   2.   Rename the DSRepair.NLM to DSRepair.old
  135.   3.   Copy DSREPAIR.NLM provided in this update to the
  136. SYS:SYSTEM subdirectory of the server on which it will be run.
  137.   4.   At the console prompt of the file server, type the
  138. following command:
