README of 400PT1.EXE
******************** WARNING **********************************
Load ONLY the specific NLM that corrects
the problem you are experiencing.
***************************************************************
This file contains the latest release of NetWare v4.00 Operating
System
Patches. The following files are included in this release:
***IMPORTANT NOTES:********************************************
1. A second documentation file by the name of PM400.DOC is
included, which accompanies PM400.NLM. PM400.NLM is
required when loading the dynamic patches (nlms).
2. Each of the patches included in this release is listed below.
3. Also included below is a brief discussion of the patch
concept and installation instructions.
***************************************************************
PATCH MANAGER FOR NETWARE v4.00
PM400.NLM
7472 4-30-93 1:18p
This NLM is the patch manager for NetWare v4.00 and must be
loaded before
any patches are loaded.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PATCHES
GETLOCFX.NLM
1145 6-15-93 2:12p
NetWare 4.00 servers will respond to GetLocalTarget requests
even though
they cannot provide the best route in a STAR or WAN environment.
This
would result in a performance hit for a workstation because its
packets
would continue to route through the 4.00 server even though a
more direct
route was available.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This patch MUST be loaded before the LAN driver is loaded. If
the patch is
not loaded before the LAN driver the patch will not fix the
problem. Place
the following commands in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file before the LOAD
LAN
drivername command.
LOAD PM400
LOAD GETLOCFX
BMSTRFx.NLM
1128 6-14-93 4:43p
When using NetWare 4.0 and the IBM LAN cards the file server
will hang as
soon as a user attempts to log in. This is due to a problem
with NCP 22 51
and bus master lan drivers, and physical vs. logical memory
addresses.
***************************************************************
DYNAMIC PATCH INSTALLATION AND INFORMATION:
***************************************************************
Each of the dynamic patches listed above are intended for
NetWare v4.00.
The dynamic patches are loaded at the file server console as
NetWare
Loadable Modules and require PM400.NLM v1.00 to be loaded.
It is recommended that the command "LOAD <patch name>" be placed
in the
server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file to ensure that the patch is always in
effect
when the server is initially brought up.
Since they are NLM's, the patches can be loaded and unloaded
without ever
having to bring the server down. Once loaded, the Operating
System is
patched and ready to go.
Unloading the patches will restore the Operating System to its
original
"un-patched" state.

Installation Instructions:
To install a specific patch or patches, simply place the patch
file in the
same directory as the other NLM files (SYS:SYSTEM or DOS
partition), and
type "LOAD <patch name>" for each patch you wish to load. Once
a patch has
loaded, all changes are in effect until it is unloaded. If an
error
message appears, contact Novell Technical Support. As suggested
above, you
will probably want to enter the LOAD commands into your
AUTOEXEC.NCF file
to insure that the patches are loaded automatically.
