  16. This file contains the DCB.DSK file.  This file has a DOC file that gives
  17. information concerning the use of the new DCB.DSK disk driver with drives
  18. set up as Generic SCSI.  This is a completely rewritten driver, not a
  19. patched version of the earlier driver.

  38. Novell encourages all users to use this newer DCB.DSK disk driver!  This is
  39. not a patched version of the old driver, this is a completely re-written
  40. driver.  ***PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE USING THIS NEW
  41. DCB.DSK DISK DRIVER!***

  43. When a NetWare 386 partition is created with a drive type defined as
  44. Generic SCSI under the older DCB.DSK disk driver (date 08/03/89 - file size
  45. 16034) and you upgrade to the new DCB.DSK disk driver (date 02/06/90 - file
  46. size 17331) you will not be able to mount the volume(s) on that partition. 
  47. When attempting to mount the volume(s) you will receive the error: "There
  48. are no accessible disk drives with NetWare partitions...".  When you load
  49. the install NLM, and go into "Disk Options", "Partition Tables", you will
  50. receive the following error: "NetWare 386 partition relative sector 32 and
  51. size XXXXX do not match the ending cylinder XXX, head XX, sector XX".  You
  52. will need to select "Create NetWare Partition" and create a new partition
  53. using the new DCB.DSK driver mentioned above.

  55. ***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A CURRENT BACKUP OF ALL DATA CONTAINED ON
  56. THE DRIVE(S) BEFORE CREATING THE NEW PARTITION, AS CREATING A NEW PARTITION
  57. WILL DESTROY ALL EXISTING DATA, BINDERIES AND TRUSTEE ASSINGMENTS

  60. After creating the new partition and volume(s), you can log in to the
  61. server and restore all backed up data.
  62.  
  63. These changes made to the heads, sectors and cylinders (partion table
  64. information) were made to adhere as closely as possible to the industry
  65. standard partition table information that applies to devices that cannot
  66. report heads, sectors and cylinders.

  70. May we also re-emphasize that Novell has never claimed that the Generic
  71. SCSI option would successfully interface with all SCSI type hard drives,
  72. nor do we support it that way.

  74. The best option for interfacing larger drives is to purchase a drive from a
  75. drive manufacture that has a NetWare Ready stamp (indicating the heads,
  76. sectors and cylinders) on the drive when shipped from the manufacture and
  77. selecting the NetWare ready option in Disk Set.  This option applies to
  78. NetWare 386 only!
