  1.                          README FOR 22DOWN.EXE
  2. This README file of 22DOWN.ZIP accompanies DOWND.FIX and DOWNDED.FIX for 
  3. NetWare v2.2. The following files are included for this revision:

  12. Purpose:
  13. This fix is intended for all versions of NetWare v2.2 for dedicated and non-
  14. dedicated servers. This patch fixes the ABEND message "Stack overflow" that
  15. occurs if any DOS process has more than 25 files open at the time the server 
  16. is DOWNed. 
  17.  
  18. This patch allocates space so that the "stack overflow" ABEND does not
  19. occur at the time the server is downed. (if there are 240 or less open files 
  20. per process)  With this patch, if the server is downed while files are open,
  21. the message "files still open, do you want to down the server?" will appear 
  22. at the file server console.
  23.  
  24. INSTALLATION
  25. If the OS is generated from hard disk:
  26.  
  27. 1) In the generation area, make a PATCHES directory. Copy the above listed 
  28.    files into the patches directory. 
  29.  
  30. 2)  From the 2.2 gen area, (cd .. from PATCHES directory) run the batch file 
  31.     DOWNFIX.BAT. It will create a backup by renaming the nondedos.obj and 
  32.     the dedos.obj file with an extension of *.bak. (Note: if you already
  33.     have files named nondedos.bak or dedos.bak they will need to be renamed.)
  34.  
  35. 3)  The batch file will execute the zapobj utility. Zapobj will create new
  36.     *.obj files (nondedos.obj and dedos.obj) using the downded.fix and 
  37.     downnd.fix files as parameter files. Zapobj will leave the *.bak files
  38.     as backups.
  39.  
  40. 4)  Run install to relink the OS.
  41.  
  42. INSTALLATION:
  43. If the OS is generated from floppy:
  44.  
  45. NOTE: DUE TO THE LIMITATIONS OF DISK SPACE ON FLOPPY DISKETTES IT IS 
  46. NECESSARY TO COPY THE .OBJ FILE TO BE PATCHED TO A BLANK DIRECTORY 
  47. ON A HARD DISK WITH AT LEAST 2 MB OF FREE DISK SPACE ALONG WITH THE
  48. PATCH PROGRAMS.  YOU WILL THEN RUN THE PATCH PROGRAM AND COPY 
  49. THE PATCHED VERSION OF THE FILE BACK TO THE DISKETTE USED AS A 
  50. WORKING COPY.  It would be worthwhile to keep the original version 
  51. for backup purposes, should there be any need start over or go 
  52. back to the unpatched version for any reason.
  53.  
  54. 1) a-If the server is non-dedicated, copy the NONDEDOS.OBJ file 
  55.      from the OSOBJ diskette into an empty directory on the hard disk.  
  56.      Rename NODEDOS.OBJ to NONDEDOS.BAK.  Then copy the DOWNND.FIX 
  57.      and ZAPOBJ.EXE files, listed above, into the same directory. 
  58.  
  59.      b-If the server is dedicated, copy the DEDOS.OBJ file from the
  60.      OSOBJ diskette into and empty directory on the hard disk.  Rename
  61.      DEDOS.OBJ to DEDOS.BAK.  Then copy the DOWNDED.FIX and ZAPOBJ.EXE 
  62.      files listed above into the same directoy.

  65. 2) Run the ZAPOBJ utility as follows from the directory on the hard disk
  66.    that you copied the files to:
  67.  
  68.      >ZAPOBJ inputfile outputfile parameterfile
  69.  
  70.    a-If the server is non-dedicated enter:
  71.      >ZAPOBJ NONDEDOS.BAK NONDEDOS.OBJ DOWNND.FIX
  72.  
  73.    b-If the server is dedicated enter:  
  74.      >ZAPOBJ DEDOS.BAK DEDOS.OBJ DOWNDED.FIX   
  75.  
  76. 3) You have now created a new .obj file in the directory on the 
  77.    hard disk and you should copy this file back onto the OSOBJ
  78.    DISKETTE.  
  79.  
  80.     NOTE:  THE .bak FILE ON THE HARD DISK IS YOUR BACKUP COPY 
  81.     OF NONDEDOS.OBJ OR DEDOS.OBJ (WHICH EVER YOU MODIFIED)
  82.     AND SHOULD BE SAVED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

  84. 4) Relink the OS from the SYSTEM-1 diskette.
