NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT
TITLE: NetWare 2.2 Installation Demo
DOCUMENT ID: TID000006
DOCUMENT REVISION: A
DATE: 01JUL93
ALERT STATUS: Yellow
INFORMATION TYPE: Symptom Solution
README FOR: 22DEMO.EXE
NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION:
NetWare 2.2
ABSTRACT:
These simulations use the actual installation files. However, they have
been modified so that they don't actually write to or look for a hard disk.
This allows the program to run on a PC with no hard disk. If the program
is run on a workstation with a hard disk, no damage will be done to the
workstation disk because of these modifications.

This diskette contains a simulation version of the NetWare v2.2 INSTALL,
WSGEN and ROUTEGEN utilities.
These simulations use the actual installation files. However, they have
been modified so that they don't actually write to or look for a hard disk.
This allows the program to run on a PC with no hard disk. If the program
is run on a workstation with a hard disk, no damage will be done to the
workstation disk because of these modifications.
________________________________________________________________
NOTE:
While you may choose any LAN driver in this simulation, the hard disk
information is set. It will display Industry Standard (ISA) for Channel 0,
and Disk Coprocessor Board (DCB) for Channel 1. If you select any other
disk driver, the program will still display ISA and DCB as the selected
drivers. Also, in the simulation, the DCB has two drives connected, two
CDC WrenIII embedded-SCSI disk drives.

INSTALLATION ON A NETWORK
To install this software on a network, follow these steps for EACH user who
will run these programs. This program is NOT shareable.
1. Create a directory that will contain the simulation files. The name of
this directory is not pre-defined.
For example, md install1
2. Create four more directories under this directory. Name them:
SYSTEM-1
SYSTEM-2
WSGEN
ROUTEGEN
3. Copy the files from the directories on the diskette to their respective
directories on the network (SYSTEM-1 to SYSTEM-1, SYSTEM-2 to SYSTEM-2
WSGEN to WSGEN, ROUTEGEN to ROUTEGEN).
4. Copy the INSTALL.EXE file from the SYSTEM-1 directory into its parent
directory (INSTALL1 in the above example).
5. Copy the WSGEN.EXE file from the WSGEN directory into its parent
directory (INSTALL1 in the above example).
6. Copy the ROUTEGEN.EXE file from the ROUETGEN directory into its parent
directory (INSTALL1 in the above example).
7. This completes the installation. You are now ready to run the
simulation.
8. To run the INSTALL simulation, type INSTALL while in the parent
directory mentioned above (INSTALL1 in the example).
9. To run the WSGEN simulation, type WSGEN while in the parent directory
mentioned above (INSTALL1 in the example).
10. To run the ROUTEGEN simulation, type ROUTEGEN while in the parent
directory mentioned above (INSTALL1 in the example).
INSTALLATION ON FLOPPY DISK
1. These simulations may be run from four floppy diskettes (high-density).
Copy the SYSTEM-1 files to a diskette with a "SYSTEM-1" volume label, the
SYSTEM-2 files to a second diskette with the volume label of "SYSTEM-2",
the WSGEN files to a third diskette with the volume label of "WSGEN" and
the ROUTEGEN files to a fourth diskette with the volume label of
"ROUTEGEN".
2. To run the INSTALL simulation from floppy, insert the SYSTEM-1 diskette
in drive A and type INSTALL.
3. To run the WSGEN simulation from floppy, insert the WSGEN diskette in
drive A and type WSGEN.
4. To run the ROUTEGEN simulation from floppy, insert the ROUTEGEN diskette
in drive A and type ROUTEGEN.
INSTALLATION ON A HARD DRIVE
To install this software on a hard drive, follow these steps:
1. Create a directory that will contain the simulation files. The name of
this directory is not pre-defined.
For example, md install1
2. Create four more directories under this directory. Name them:
SYSTEM-1
SYSTEM-2
WSGEN
ROUTEGEN
3. Copy the files from the directories on the diskette to their respective
directories on the network.
4. Copy these FIVE files from the SYSTEM-1 directory into its parent
directory (INSTALL1 in the above example): INSTALL.EXE, $RUN.OVL,
SYS$MSG.DAT, SYS$ERR.DAT, SYS$HELP.DAT.
NOTES:
1. The files that have been modified for this simulation are listed below:
INSTOVL.EXE in SYSTEM-1
DSKSCTRS.EDU in SYSTEM-1
NLINK.EXE in SYSTEM-2
DCONFIG.EXE in SYSTEM-2
ZTEST.EXE in SYSTEM-2
All other files are the same as on the NetWare v2.2 distribution
diskettes.
FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES
To allow several students in a class to use this simulation, you must
create a directory for each. You could name the directories INSTALL1,
INSTALL2, and so on. Follow the procedures for NETWORK installation then
duplicate to appropriate student directories.
This Simulation Software diskette contains batch files to make the loading
and unloading of the programs easier. For instructions on the use of these
batch files, put the diskette in floppy drive A: or B: and Enter the
command: INFO. To duplicate for multiple students, remap S: and run the
ngo.bat file again.
If you happen to need to remove the simulation software from either the
local or network drive sometime, there are appropriate batch files on this
diskette.
To unload from a NETWORK drive, map S: to the parent directory of the
simulation directories (INSTALL1 in the example above), change to the
floppy drive with the simulation software and Enter the command: NNOSIM
<source drive, i.e. A: or B:>.
To unload from a LOCAL hard drive, change to the floppy drive with the
simulation software diskette and Enter the command: LNOSIM <local hard
drive, i.e. C: or D: etc.>.
