  6. The purpose of this bulletin is to provide SoftSolutions users/resellers
  7. a comprehensive listing of software updates and alert them of important
  8. issues which may be encountered.  Depending on the usefulness of this
  9. bulletin, content and purpose may change over time.  Please provide any
  10. feedback you may have directly to SoftSolutions Technical Support or through
  11. the SOFTSOL forum on CompuServe.

  14. The last portion of this bulletin lists the online services where support
  15. and product updates are available.

  19.             SoftSolutions Patches for 4.1
  20.  
  21.  
  22. 1.   Filename: 41RDS.EXE      Contains: remote.wcm
  23.      Problem:  If a user imports a document with Private Security through the
  24.                Remote Document Server using remote.wcm, the document was
  25.                being imported with Public Security.
  26.      Install:  Replace remote.wcm in the SoftSolutions programs directory.

  29. 2.   Filename: 41IMPD.EXE     Contains: swimpdir.exe
  30.      Problem:  If user runs swimpdir.exe (4.1 version from the CD), the
  31.                utility will GPF.
  32.      Install:  Replace swimpdir.exe in the SoftSolutions UTIL subdirectory.

  35. 3.   Filename: 41WRD6.EXE     Contains: ssnorm.dot     
  36.      Problem:  Fixes printing selected text, when visiting print preview
  37.                screen user will no longer receive a 509 error when exiting
  38.                Word, and possibly fixes inserting graphic files in Word.
  39.      Install:  Replace ssnorm.dot in Word 6.0 startup directory and the
  40.                SoftSolutions INT subdirectory.
  41.  
  42. 4.   Filename: 41VRDS.EXE     Contains: ssvimusr.exe
  43.      Problem:  Fixes a display problem which will cause one of its status
  44.                messages to appear line after line until it fills the whole
  45.                screen. The problem is only visible on the RDS main screen
  46.                which the system administrator deals with.  Users are not
  47.                affected.
  48.      Install:  Replace ssvimusr.exe in the SoftSolutions programs directory.

  52.                 Current Issues
  53.  
  54. Bug 19190 - DOS previewer issue:  Users cannot preview an open document with
  55.             the DOS previewer.  This is a problem caused by the process by
  56.             which SCC opens the document.  The SSVIEWER.BAT file can be
  57.             modified to copy the file to a temporary location and then
  58.             delete the document after the preview has been completed.

  62.                 Windows 95 Issues:
  63.  
  64. 1.   Problem:  SoftSolutions issues a 730 error stating that the document is
  65.                still open although it has been closed at the application
  66.                screen.  With the final release of Win95, this problem doesn't
  67.                appear as much and seems to be limited to documents which have
  68.                been previewed or launched.
  69.  
  70.      Solution: In order to exit SoftSolutions if a 730 error is shown, press
  71.                the <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Del> keys simultaneously and select
  72.                the SoftSolutions application from the list and click on the
  73.                End Task button.

  76. 2.   Problem:  A user running Windows 95 could not access a Dataset via the
  77.                SEM.  The user would get error: "574: unknown host or
  78.                server[8917]".
  79.  
  80.      Solution: It appears that Windows 95, on a new installation, does not
  81.                load "Netware.drv" in the system directory.  Therefore, if
  82.                a user installs Windows 95 on a PC that does not have a
  83.                previous version of Windows 3.1, they will not be able to
  84.                access a Dataset via a SEM.  Solution is to copy in
  85.                "Netware.drv" into the system directory.

  88. 3.   Problem:  During SoftSolutions Custom Installation procedure, the
  89.                Browse button works but doesn't reliably echo the directory
  90.                structure into the input field.
  91.  
  92.      Solution: Verify that the path inserted by the Browse feature is
  93.                accurate before proceeding with the installation.
  94.

  96. 4.   Problem:  Currently, SoftSolutions does not work well with long file
  97.                names.
  98.  
  99.      Solution: The only way (thus far) to get SoftSolutions to see a Long
  100.                File Name directory is to first truncate the directory name
  101.                to six characters and then append two tildes followed by the
  102.                occurrence number of the name in the current directory.  E.g.
  103.                the following command line should start wordpad.exe from a
  104.                SoftSolutions application command line:
  105.  
  106.         c:\progra~~1\access~~1\wordpad.exe 
  107.  
  108.                Additionally, application record creation templates do not
  109.                work.  Adding two "^" doesn't help, it just inserts the file
  110.                name preceded by a "^".
  111.  
  112.  
  113. 5.   Problem:  The selection buttons (quick keys) do not function with the
  114.                keyboard when opening a new document from within an integrated
  115.                application.
  116.  
  117.      Solution: Make selection with the mouse instead of with the quick keys.
  118.  
  119.  
  120. 6.   Problem:  Opening a document from SoftSolutions 4.1 into Word 6 does not
  121.                open the  document into Word.
  122.  
  123.      Solution: Once in Word, do File|Open.  The document will then appear.
  124.  
  125.  
  126. 7.   Problem:  If all documents are closed inside Word6 and Word 6 is open,
  127.                File|Exit will not shut down Word.
  128.  
  129.      Solution: Alt F4 will shut down Word.
