  2. This README file includes instructions for setting up WordPerfect
  3. Office 3.1 programs to print to a PostScript printer.
  4.  
  5. POSTSCRIPT PRINTER PROGRAM
  6.      In order to print to a PostScript printer, you must load a
  7.      special TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) PostScript Printer
  8.      program (PSPRT.COM).  After loading PSPRT.COM, you must
  9.      start the desired WordPerfect Office program and select the
  10.      POSTSCR.PRD printer definition and the logical printer port.
  11.  
  12.      If the physical output port selected in PSPRT is serial, you
  13.  
  14.      may have to use the DOS MODE command to specify the baud,
  15.      parity, data, and stop settings for the serial port.
  16.  
  17.      The logical port is the port selected in a WordPerfect
  18.      Office program.  The default logical port is LPT2.  The
  19.      physical port is the port physically connecting the computer
  20.      to the local or network printer.  The default physical port
  21.      is LPT1.

  23.      This version of PSPRT.COM does not support the printing of
  24.      extended characters.  In addition, this version of PSPRT.COM
  25.      should be started from the DOS prompt or with an
  26.      AUTOEXEC.BAT, rather than from TSR Manager or as a Shell
  27.      item.

  29. LOADING THE POSTSCRIPT PRINTER PROGRAM
  30.      Load the PostScript Printer program before you start Shell.
  31.      If you have already started Shell, you should exit Shell,
  32.      load the PostScript Printer program, then restart Shell. 
  33.      WordPerfect Office programs will then have the ability to
  34.      print to a PostScript printer.  Once the PostScript Printer
  35.      program is loaded, you can follow the instructions in this
  36.      appendix to print from a WordPerfect Office program with or
  37.      without Shell running.

  39.      To load PSPRT.COM,
  40.  
  41.            At the DOS prompt, change to the WordPerfect Office
  42.            program directory.
  43.  
  44.            Enter psprt to accept the default settings of the
  45.            PostScript Printer program (logical port=LPT2,
  46.            physical port=LPT1).
  47.  
  48.      If you are logged on to a network, your network type is
  49.      displayed.  If you need to enter a different network type
  50.      than the startup option in your environment file
  51.      (OF{OF}.ENV) indicates, see PSPRT Startup Options below.

  53.      To change the default logical and physical ports, you must
  54.      use the necessary startup options to start the PostScript
  55.      Printer program.  For a list of available startup options,
  56.      see PSPRT Startup Options below.

  58.            Start Shell as you usually do.
  59.  
  60.      If you print to a PostScript printer often, you may want to 
  61.  
  62.      include the PSPRT command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file before
  63.      the Shell command, including any necessary startup options.

  65. PSPRT STARTUP OPTIONS
  66.      /h
  67.      The /h (help) option displays the Help screen.
  68.  
  69.      /l-n
  70.      Selects the logical port.  The logical port is the port
  71.      selected in a WordPerfect Office program (the default is
  72.      LPT2). Replace n with the port number (1-3 = LPT1-3; 4-7 =
  73.      COM1-4) for the logical port.

  75.      /nt-x 
  76.      Sets network to type x.  Replace x with one of items 0-9 or
  77.      A-C:  
  78.  
  79.      O = Other; 1 = Novell NetWare; 2 = Banyan VINES; 3 = TOPS
  80.      Network; 4 = IBM LAN Network; 5 = NOKIA PC-Net; 6 = 3Com 3+;
  81.      7 = 10Net; 8 = LANtastic Network; 9 = AT&T StarGROUP;
  82.      A = DEC PCSA; B = 3COM 3+ OPEN; C = Banyan StreetTalk.

  84.      /p-n
  85.      Selects the physical port, which is the port physically
  86.      connecting the computer to the local or network printer (the
  87.      default is LPT1).  Replace n with the port number (1-3=
  88.      LPT1-3; 4-7 = COM1-4; 8, port or Novell NetWare queue =
  89.      network printer), for the physical port.

  91.      If the physical output port is serial, see Using a Serial
  92.      Port as the Physical Output Device below.  See Network
  93.      Printing below for more information on printing directly to
  94.      a Novell NetWare network queue and a network port.

  96. CHOOSING A PORT
  97.      To avoid conflicts with non-WordPerfect Office programs that
  98.  
  99.      need to use the printer, the logical port should be a port 
  100.      not currently used.
  101.  
  102.      For example, entering psprt/l-2/p-1 will start PostScript
  103.      Printer program and assign the logical to LPT2 port and the
  104.      physical to LPT1 port.  When you print, the print job will
  105.      be sent first to the logical port and then redirected to the
  106.      physical port.

  108. NETWORK PRINTING      
  109.      If you are printing with a network operating system other
  110.      than Novell NetWare, the above procedures would be the same
  111.      for setting up the PostScript Printer program.  If the above
  112.      procedures do not allow the program to accept your printer
  113.      as a network printer, you should use the /p-8 option in
  114.      conjunction with your network port (for example,
  115.      psprt/p-8,LPT1).  Using Novell NetWare, you can set up PSPRT
  116.      to print directly to your queue by using the /p-8 startup
  117.      option (for example, psprt/p-8,printq_1 or
  118.      psprt/p-8,office/laser).

  120. SELECTING THE POSTSCR.PRD PRINTER DEFINITION

  133. SELECTING A LOGICAL PORT IN OFFICE PROGRAMS
  134.      Refer to the sections listed under Selecting the POSTSCR.PRD
  135.      Printer Definition above for instructions on selecting a
  136.      parallel (LPT) port in the WordPerfect Office program.  This
  137.      port must be the same as the port selected when PSPRT was
  138.      loaded (see Loading the PostScript Printer Program above).

  140.      Because most WordPerfect Office programs don't support
  141.      selection of a serial (COM) port, the logical port selected
  142.      in the WordPerfect Office program should be a parallel (LPT)
  143.      port.

  145. USING A SERIAL  PORT AS THE PHYSICAL OUTPUT DEVICE
  146.      If you print in non-WordPerfect Office programs to a
  147.      PostScript printer through a serial port, you may already
  148.      have a DOS MODE command (for example, MODE COM1:9600,n,8,1)
  149.      in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  If you don't have the necessary
  150.      DOS MODE command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to print through
  151.      a serial port, see your printer manual or DOS manual for
  152.      more information.
