  2. README.TXT (Filler Only Installation)
  3. =================================================================
  4. This file explains updates to Novell InForms 4.1 that address
  5. some issues that arise when the application is running under
  6. Windows NT and Windows 3.1.  If you want to update InForms 4.1, you
  7. must have previously installed the application.  The problems this
  8. patch fixes are listed at the end of this file.
  9.  
  10. To apply the patch, you must use a utility called PATCH.EXE (from
  11. Pocket Soft, Inc.), along with the accompanying .RTP files. The
  12. patch updates files in the directories specified below.  If you are
  13. running InForms 4.1 from the network, your network administrator
  14. may need to update the files if you do not have the rights to do so.

  17. UPDATED FILES
  18. =============
  19. This utility updates the files listed below.
  20.  
  21. The file INFF1.RTP updates the following files in the
  22. InForms 4.1 directory
  23. (in a standard installation, this would be C:\INF41):

  45. The file INFPF2.RTP updates the following files in the
  46. PerfectFit directory
  47. (in a standard installation, this would be C:\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20):

  58. INSTALLING THE UPDATES
  59. ======================
  60. To install the updates, you must first find out where your InForms
  61. 4.1 and PerfectFit directories are. To do so,
  62.  
  63. 1    Start InForms 4.1.
  64. 2    Select About InForms from the Help menu.
  65. 3    Make a note of the path beside Program Release; this is your
  66.      InForms 4.1 directory.
  67. 4    Make a note of the path beside Shared DLL Release; this is
  68.      your PerfectFit directory.
  69. 5    Exit InForms.
  70. 6    Close all other Novell applications. You cannot apply the
  71.      PerfectFit patch while any other Novell applications are
  72.      running.
  73.  
  74. After you have identified the location of your InForms 4.1 and
  75. PerfectFit directories,
  76.  
  77. 1    Go to a DOS prompt.
  78. 2    Change to the drive and directory where the update disk
  79.      exists (usually A:).
  80. 3    At the DOS prompt, type:
  81.        PATCH INFF1.RTP C:\INF41 (replace C:\INF41 with the path
  82.          to your InForms 4.1 directory if that directory is in   
  83.          another location), and wait for the patch to update the
  84.          files.
  85. 4    At the DOS prompt, type:
  86.        PATCH INFPF2.RTP C:\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20 (replace
  87.          C:\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20 with the path to your PerfectFit
  88.          directory if that directory is in another location),
  89.          and wait for the patch to update the files.

  91.  
  92. TROUBLESHOOTING
  93. ===============
  94.  
  95. If any errors or warnings occur while you are applying the patches,
  96. a PATCH.ERR file is created in the target directory where the patch
  97. is applied.
  98.  
  99. If PATCH.EXE cannot locate the files that need to be patched, the
  100. following message is displayed:
  101.  
  102.      Warning wpt0015: Old File does not exist
  103.  
  104. This message may indicate one or more of the following situations:
  105.  
  106.      *    You have previously deleted one or more files from the
  107.           original InForms 4.1 installation.
  108.  
  109.      *    You are trying to patch the wrong version of InForms. You
  110.           may need to reinstall the original InForms 4.1 files
  111.           before you apply the patch.
  112.  
  113. If PATCH.EXE determines that a file does not need to be patched,
  114. the following message is displayed:
  115.  
  116.      New Version of File FILENAME already exists.
  117.  
  118. This message may indicate that you have already applied the patch.
  119. PATCH.EXE has verified that your software is up-to-date; you do not
  120. need to take any further action.
  121.  
  122.  
  123. ADDITIONAL FILES
  124. ================
  125. A) NWCALLS.DLL
  126. B) CTL3DV2.DLL
  127.  
  128. A) The NWCALLS.DLL file was not being installed properly in a
  129. network server installation and in a workstation installation with
  130. InForms running from the network.
  131.  
  132. If you have a standard installation running InForms from a local
  133. drive, NWCALLS.DLL is already properly installed; you do not need
  134. to do anything with this file. If you have a network server
  135. installation, you need to copy the file to the "OLE2" subdirectory
  136. from the PerfectFit directory. If you already have a NWCALLS.DLL
  137. file in the "OLE2" subdirectory and it has a later date and time
  138. than the one supplied with the patch, you do not need to continue
  139. with the following steps.
  140.  
  141. After you have identified the location of your PerfectFit directory
  142. for a server installation,
  143.  
  144. 1    At the DOS prompt, type:
  145.        COPY NWCALLS.DLL W:\WIN\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20\OLE2
  146.          (replace W:\WIN\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20 with the path to your
  147.          Shared Code directory).
  148.  
  149. After you have applied the above patch and copied the file to the
  150. "OLE2" PerfectFit subdirectory of a network server installation,
  151. all new workstation installations will correctly put this file into
  152. the local "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" directory. For existing workstation
  153. installations, you need to manually copy the file to the local
  154. "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" directory or run the install program again.
  155.

  157. B) The CTL3DV2.DLL file was not being installed properly in all
  158. types of installations. If you have a standard installation running
  159. InForms from a local drive, you need to copy CTL3DV2.DLL to the
  160. local "\WINDOWS\SYSTEMS" directory if it is not already there. To
  161. do so,
  162.  
  163. 1    At the DOS prompt, type:
  164.        COPY CTL3DV2.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM (replace
  165.          C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM with the path to your installed windows
  166.          system directory).
  167.  
  168. If you have a network server installation, you need to copy this
  169. file to the "OLE2" subdirectory off the PerfectFit directory. If
  170. you already have this file in the "OLE2" subdirectory and the file
  171. has a later date and time than the one supplied with the patch, you
  172. do not need to continue with the following steps.  After you have
  173. identified the location of your PerfectFit directory for a server
  174. installation,
  175.  
  176. 1    At the DOS prompt, type:
  177.        COPY CTL3DV2.DLL W:\WIN\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20\OLE2
  178.          (replace W:\WIN\OFFICE\SHARED\WPC20 with the path to your
  179.          Shared Code directory.)
  180.  
  181. After you have applied the above patch and copied the file to the
  182. "OLE2" PerfectFit subdirectory of a network server installation,
  183. all new workstation installations will correctly put this file into
  184. the local "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" directory. For existing workstation
  185. installations, you need to manually copy the file to the local
  186. "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" directory or run the install program again.

  188.  
  189. PROBLEMS FIXED WITH THIS PATCH
  190. ==============================
  191.  
  192.   Data Links
  193.      *  Under some conditions, read-only database fields were
  194.         written to the database when a write object link was
  195.         updated.
  196.      *  A sorting problem sometimes caused a "Corrupt File,
  197.         Datalinks Lost" error message to be displayed when there
  198.         were hundreds of fields on a valid form.
  199.  
  200.   Data Tables
  201.      *  Text was not always justified correctly when records
  202.         scrolled into view and when they were edited.
  203.      *  Under certain conditions, a GPF occurred when data table
  204.         rows were being printed on attachment pages.
  205.      *  When a memo field was defined within a data table and it
  206.         had enough text to wrap, only the first line of text was
  207.         printed on any attachment pages.
  208.      *  When the primary field was on one page and the data table
  209.         was on another page, "A primary record must be locked
  210.         before entering the data table" message was displayed
  211.         incorrectly.
  212.  
  213.   Delrina Form Import
  214.      *  The import incorrectly excluded earlier versions of
  215.         Delrina Forms from being imported (Pre-PerForm Pro Plus).
  216.  
  217.   Formulas
  218.      *  Under certain conditions, @DELETEREC() generated an
  219.         "Internal Memory Error" message.
  220.      *  A GPF occurred in Filler if a formula went to two different
  221.         linked forms.
  222.      *  The @RESETOBJ() formula did not work for table cells.
  223.      *  Under certain conditions, an object's value was cleared
  224.         incorrectly when it called an Independent formula.
  225.      *  "Open" type formulas were not firing on @NEWREC() when
  226.         they were attached to Action Button objects.
  227.      *  The @TEXT() function deleted leading zeros of a decimal
  228.         value (e.g., .03 was changed to .3).
  229.      *  A GPF occurred when opening a form in Filler if a change
  230.         formula referenced a multi-record table column using a
  231.         column name reference instead of a column letter
  232.         reference.
  233.  
  234.   Installation
  235.      *  The file CTL3DV2.DLL was not being installed. (This file
  236.         is needed for the IDAPI configuration utility.)
  237.      *  On a server or workstation installation, the file
  238.         NWCALLS.DLL was not being installed.
  239.      *  Under certain conditions, a GPF occurred after a server
  240.         installation.
  241.  
  242.   Lotus Notes
  243.      *  Some Lotus Notes forms were not showing in the list of
  244.         tables when a form was being linked to a Lotus Notes
  245.         database.
  246.      *  Querying a Lotus Notes form did not show records that were
  247.         entered using Notes.
  248.      *  A form could not be linked to Lotus Notes Views.
  249.  
  250.   Object Appearance
  251.      *  If you turned a table cell line off through the Example
  252.         window, you could not turn it back on.
  253.      *  In certain conditions, copying and pasting an object changed
  254.         the copied object font to something different from the
  255.         original font.
  256.  
  257.   Query
  258.      *  Query catalogs were incorrectly being read in when
  259.         Data-Only (.DO) forms were opened. Query catalogs are
  260.         not valid in .DO forms.
  261.      *  A record could not be deleted from FoxPro and Clipper
  262.         databases if the data had an embedded apostrophe.
  263.      *  The query parse failed when a query was being performed on
  264.         a Clipper database with 1,000 fields.
  265.  
  266.   README.IN File
  267.      *  Step 3 in the "ACCESS THE Q+E DRIVERS" section incorrectly
  268.         stated that you should rename the INDBLQE.DLL file to
  269.         INDBLIB.DLL. The name of the file you need to rename is
  270.         actually INDBLIB.OLD.
  271.  
  272.   Text Tool
  273.      *  Hard returns were not counted in Memo fields, which allowed 
  274.         more characters than expected to be entered.
  275.      *  In some cases, character spacing with bold and italic fonts
  276.         was different than the spacing for the regular font in
  277.         InForms 1.0b. 
  278.      *  A memo field with underline set displayed text incorrectly
  279.         in relation to the underlines displayed when a printer was
  280.         selected.
  281.  
  282.   Windows NT
  283.      *  Global spell-checking produced a GPF under Windows NT.
  284.      *  Tabbing to any field that already contained data produced
  285.         a GPF under Windows NT when Fast Editor was off.
