NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT
TITLE: GroupWise 4.1a Remote Client 1 Patch
README FOR: GWUSR1.EXE
NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS:
GroupWise 4.1a for Windows
ABSTRACT:
This patch (GWUSR1.EXE) is intended for Novell GroupWise 4.1a
Remote for Windows. It corresponds with the GWUSC1 patch used
to update 'domains' and post offices on a network.
This 'remote' GroupWise patch is intended for remote systems
(e.g. laptops). This patch provides a means for these systems to
be updated without connecting to the network.

ISSUE:
This patch fixes the following problems:
* Custom Messages - under some conditions, the DLL associated
with custom messages would not load, causing custom messages to
fail.
* Custom Commands - under some conditions, the DLL associated
with custom commands would not load, causing the command to fail.
* MAPI - would not work properly with Microsoft Access. Under
some conditions, a GPF would occur.
* Calendar Printing - In some cases, the printer orientation
(landscape or portrait) was not being changed to match that of
the form being printed.
* Printing Multi-Image TIFF and Multi-Sheet Spreadsheet
* Attachments - When a user tried to print while viewing a
multi-image TIFF file or a multi-sheet spreadsheet, only the
first image or sheet would print. Now, the current viewed
image or sheet will print.

Installation Instructions:
Before Installing the GWUSR1.EXE patch, make sure all Novell
GroupWise/WordPerfect Windows applications are shut down.
To apply the patch:
1. From DOS (or a Windows DOS Box) set your current working
directory to the directory that contains the files listed above.
(NOTE: If you are in a Window's DOS Box, make sure
GroupWise is NOT running.)
2. At the DOS prompt, enter the following command:
PATCH path GWUSR1.RTP
where 'path' is the drive letter and directory where the
GroupWise executables are located. For example, if OFWINFIL.EXE
is located in C:\OFWIN40, you would enter the following command:
PATCH C:\OFWIN40 GWUSR1.RTP
This will patch the following files:
OFWIN.EXE
OFWINFIL.EXE
VEWIN.EXE
VEWINFIL.EXE
README.WIN
3. To patch GroupWise's MAPI.DLL, enter the following command:
PATCH winpath\SYSTEM GWMAPI.RTP
where 'winpath' is the driver letter and path to your Windows
directory. For example, if Windows is located on C:\WINDOWS, you
would enter the following command:
PATCH C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM GWMAPI.RTP
If you patch your 'remote' workstation using this patch and, at
a later time, connect directly with your network Post Office you
will get a prompt when starting GroupWise indicating that a newer
version is available and asking if you would like to update.
This prompt occurs because an entry in the Windows Registration
Database is not updated by the remote patch. To update the
registration database (and avoid this prompt) you can (1) update
your workstation (again) using RMSETUP from the Post Office, or
(2) modify the entry in the Windows registration database.
Modifying the registration database can be accomplished using the
following steps:
1. From the Program Manager's File-Run menu option, invoke
REGEDIT.EXE using the /V switch. (REGEDIT is located in the
Windows directory.)
2. Locate the Entry "\WPOffice40\VersionNumber". The value
associated with this entry should be 16 for GroupWise 4.1a.
Change it to 19.
3. Exit RegEdit saving the changes to the database.

Troubleshooting
--------------------------------
- If PATCH.EXE cannot locate a file to be patched, the following
message will be displayed:
Warning wpt0015: Old File does not exist.
Warning wpt0036: Old file not found. However, a file of the same
name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.
This may indicate one or more of the following situations:
* You have deleted (or not installed) one or more files
from
the original GroupWise 4.1a installation.
* You are attempting to patch the wrong version of
GroupWise. You may need to reinstall the original
GroupWise 4.1a files before applying this patch.
- If PATCH.EXE determines that a file does not need to be
patched,
it will report the following message:
New Version of File FILENAME already exists.
This may indicate that you have already applied the patch.
PATCH.EXE has verified that your software is up-to-date; you do
not need to take further action.
