CopyDoc Utility
THE CopyDoc UTILITY IS NOT SUPPORTED BY Novell. CopyDoc HAS NOT BEEN TESTED
BY NOVELL AND SHOULD BE TESTED BY YOU BEFORE USE.
Please e-mail any enhancments/problems to the user hmadsen@novell.com.
SICPYDOC.EXE is a utility designed to do mass copying or check out of
documents from SoftSolutions to any destination (including another dataset).
Options include copying by Search Results, Worklist, Marked List, or Current
Profile (the profile showing on the profile screen). Also, the administrator
has two additional options: copy by profile range or copy a list of documents
contained in a file (this file could be created by Report Writer for example).
SICpyDoc can also check out each Profile if desired. Additional options for
admistrators is the ability to copy to another dataset and also to specify
log files to record what was copied and/or what errors may have occured during
the mass copy.
For install instructions please refer to the "How to Install" section near the
end of this document.
A new feature with SICpyDoc is the use of an INI file (optional). The
SIUTIL.INI file not only remembers each option, Window position, and word you
type but gives you the option to Launch with no user interface. If you change
the Launch=No option to say Launch=Yes then SICpyDoc will not stop to ask what
you want run but it uses the settings in the INI file and runs them. Also,
the "Copy Doc To New Name" option has a new feature. Now you can copy to a new
document name either using the Profile name field as a basis for the document
name or it will use the actual file name. This functionality is set in the INI
file under the CpyDoc section. You will find an option called "NewName". It
has two parameters that look like this "NewName=1,1". The first digit when set
to zero (0) will use the Profile Name field--when set to one (1) then it will
use the File name. The second digit specifies whether or not CpyDoc will stop
at each file and allow you to change the file name--zero (0) tells CpyDoc to
stop. If NewName is not in the INI file or the values are invalid then 0,0 is
assumed.
SICPYDOC takes advantage of SoftSolutions' OAMs (which means you can use a
file/server name in the location segment). There are three methods of coping
a document: Copy with profile (.PRO for portable mode), Copy document only,
or Copy document (only) to a New Name. If you choose the option to copy the
document to a new name then you will be prompted on each document what name
you wish to give it. The Check Out option does update the dataset with a "C"
for check out and the Opened By field if the document is Internal, not inuse,
and is not a guest profile. Also, a CheckOut activity is created (when
activity tracking is turned on). If copying to another dataset then SWCOPY
is called. The !SYS! parameter on the command prevents non-system managers
from running this utility (although, non-system managers do get a watered down
version of sicpydoc).
SICPYDOC.TXT is a text file which contains the strings (prompts) and can me
customized with any text editor. This text file can be edited as desired--the
only caution is not to remove/add a line of text--only change the text.
Please e-mail any enhancments/problems for this utility to hmadsen@novell.com
and your requests will be considered as time permits (your input is always
welcome but these utilities are done on my own time). Another file on the BBS,
SWUTIL.ZIP, has other utilities like this one that may be of interest to a
network administrator.
The CopyDoc utility was not tested and is not supported by Novell. This
utility was created with the administrator and end user in mind--in hopes
that it might simplify administrator's life as well as creating a simple
interface for the end user. You will find that running the utility as
SoftSolutions System Manager will give different options than that offered
to the end user. When you create a launch for this utility and include the
!SYS! parameter then a non-system manager will be prevented from running
this utility.
POSSIBLE USE FOR SICPYDOC
Question: How can I check out documents to another dataset and then import
them back into the same dataset and still maintain the same profile numbers
they originated from.
Answer: Use SICPYDOC to do a mass check out (with a .PRO) to a dataset (and
let's say this second dataset is on your laptop or remote PC). Now mass
import these documents as "Profiled Documents" from the SoftSolutions
Utilities Menu. They are imported as Guest Documents because they were
checked out of the first dataset. When you finish your work on the laptop
or remote PC and want to return the documents then you run SICPYDOC again
and Check them out as you did in the first step. When this runs, SICPYDOC
will ask if you want to delete the Profile and document from the second
dataset (this behaves the same as SoftSolutions but we are doing it in mass).
When you answer Yes to that question then all the selected profiles are
removed from the second dataset. Now you run "Import Profiled Documents"
from the first dataset and they are imported into the original dataset under
the same profile numbers.
HOW TO INSTALL
1) Run the SoftSolutions Install program with a /int switch.
2) Enter the following information when prompted:
a. specify your SoftSolutions progams and data directories.
b. enter the directory where you unziped this file.
c. choose COPYDOC from the list of integrations and click OK.
3) Each user enters SoftSolutions by running Softwin (not SoftSolw) so that
the Workstation is updated (the administrator could make SICPYDOC an Easy
Launch so that users could put it on their button bar).
A successful install will do two things:
1) Place the following files in the following directories:
Windows System Directory
VBRUN300.DLL
CMDIALOG.VBX
THREED.VBX
SIPOINT.DLL
SS4VB.DLL
SoftSolutions Utilities Directory
SICPYDOC.EXE
SICPYDOC.TXT
SWCOPY.EXE
Windows Directory
SIUTIL.INI
2) the following entry is created in the SoftSolutions application setup
screen for SICPYDOC with the following command line:
%outil\sicpydoc.exe %r[%b %o %u %TMP %n %n1 %n2 %n3 %n4 %n5 %n6 %n7 %n8 %n9] %r[%sr]
