GRAPHICS.DOC
================================================================
This document contains two tables describing graphics formats for
import to and export from WordPerfect 6.0. Generally, the items
listed in the table are functions that are not supported or
appear different from the original format.
Supported source file (import) formats are:
BMP (OS/2 and Windows)
CGM (CALS CGM specification MIL-D-28003A)
EPS (Adobe PostScript)
LPIC (Lotus PIC)
PCX (Paintbrush 3.x)
PICT (Macintosh PICT and PICT2)
TARGA (TARGA Truevision)
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format version 5.0)
WMF (Windows Metafile 3.x)
DXF (AutoCAD versions 9 - 12)
MGX (Micrografx Designer 3.1)
HPGL (Hewlett Packard Graphics Language)
WPG (WordPerfect Graphics formats)
Supported target file (export) formats are:
WPG (WordPerfect Graphics Formats)
BMP (Windows Bitmap Format)
GENERAL RESTRICTIONS FOR ALL FORMATS:
Charting data is not supported.
WordPerfect 6.0 does not support image viewports larger than
27 inches.
Graphics conversions match text fonts when possible. If a
match is not available, the text font defaults to Helvetica.
Graphics conversions currently offer limited support for
contoured text. Complex contoured text paths may appear
different from the original. This includes, but is not
limited to, text contoured around rounded rectangles and
ellipses.

Section 1 - Source File Formats
================================================================
Graphics Format Information
=============== ===========
BMP No restrictions.
CGM (Computer Graphics 1) CALS CGM specification
Metafile) MIL-D-28003A version 1
format is supported, with
the following exceptions:
a) Polygon Set not
supported
b) Cell Array not
supported
c) Restricted Text not
supported
d) Text Path Up not
fully supported (the
text converts, but
it does not go up)
DXF (AutoCAD) 1) Polyline joints are not
always smooth after
conversion if the line
has a large width.
2) Fill patterns and line
styles use a 'best fit'
matching method.
3) 3-D is not supported. If
you wish to preserve the
look of 3-D drawings, you
should export to HPGL
format.
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) 1) No restrictions.
However, the file must be
a valid EPS file (the
first characters must be
"%!PS-Adobe" or "%%PS-
Adobe").
2) EPS files that contain
valid TIFF and WMF
previews are supported.
HPGL (Hewlett Packard Graphics 1) Use a HP7550 plotter
Language) definition when exporting
HPGL files to be used in
WordPerfect Corporation
products.
LPIC (Lotus PIC) 1) Fonts convert to
Helvetica or Times Roman.
2) The conversion supports
the 16 standard EGA
colors.
MGX (Micrografx Designer 3.1) 1) User-defined fills
convert to solid fills.
2) Combined symbols may not
position correctly.
Uncombined symbols will
position correctly.
PCX (Paintbrush 3.x) See General Restrictions.
PICT (Macintosh) 1) PICT is a journal of
Macintosh rendering
calls. Therefore, some
PICT entities are not
supported, such as:
a) Clipping Region
(used to display
only the desired
portion of an image,
such as a circle
with a shaded
gradient color).
b) Drawing Mode (which
determines whether
you see one object
overlap another or
two objects 'melt'
together) is
converted to Copy
Mode (one object
overlays another).
TARGA (Truevision) 1) Some TARGA graphics files
may require that you
select TARGA as the
source format, or use
command-line switch
/I=TGA.
TIFF (Tagged Image File 1) Conversion of
Format) uncompressed TIFF files
and the following
compressions are
supported:
a) CCITT Groups III and
IV (except
multipage)
b) CCITT Modified run-
length Huffman
c) PacBits
2) LZW compressions are not
supported.
3) Only the first image in a
file is converted.
WMF (Windows Metafile 3.x) 1) WMF is a collection of
Windows rendering
functions. Therefore,
some entities are not
supported, such as:
a) Region functions.
b) Rendering modes
other than Copy Mode
convert to Copy
Mode.
WPG (DrawPerfect 1.0 and 1.1, See General Restrictions.
WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2)
WPG (WordPerfect Presentations 1) Chart data is supported
2.0) 2) Only the graphical
representation is
converted for text and
organization charts.
3) See General Restrictions.
WPG (WordPerfect 6.0) 1) Chart data is supported
2) Only the graphical
representation is
converted for text and
organization charts.
3) See General Restrictions.
================================================================
Section 2 - Target File Formats
================================================================
Graphics Format Information
=============== ===========
BMP 1) Only the first bitmapped
image in a file converts.
WPG (DrawPerfect 1.0 and 1.1, 1) Custom line styles and
WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2) patterns are 'best fit'
to predefined line styles
and patterns.
2) Bitmaps greater than 8-
bits per pixel (256-
color) are not supported.
3) Polysplines are not
supported.
4) Compound polygons
(grouped or combined
objects) convert to
separate polygons, are
set from back to front,
and arranged according to
their size (largest in
back to smallest in
front).
5) Text along a path is not
supported, but both the
text and path are
preserved.
6) Gradient-filled objects
use the first gradient
color as the fill color.
7) Closed, filled curves
convert to filled
polygons.
WPG (WordPerfect Presentations 1) Custom line styles and
2.0) patterns are 'best fit'
to predefined line styles
and patterns.
2) Bitmaps greater than 8-
bits per pixel (256-
color) are not supported.
3) Polysplines are not
supported.
4) Polymarkers are not
supported.
WPG (WordPerfect 6.0) See General Restrictions.
In order for a TARGA (Truevision) file to be auto-detected, the
file must contain "TRUEVISION-XFILE" beginning 18 bytes from the
end of the file, or an extension of .TGA, .VDA, .ICB, or .VST.
Micrographx products group objects before exporting them to DXF
format. The position of the block seems to be absolute when it
should be relative. The user must ensure that objects are
ungrouped before exporting them to DXF from Micrographx Charisma
and Micrographx Designer.
When converting from WordPerfect 6.0 to WordPerfect 5.1 format,
text, date code, figure number marker, bold, and underline are
the only elements preserved in the graphic captions. Font codes,
outline codes, etc., are not preserved, but can be added after
conversion.
