  3.          Computer-Based Training (CBT) Installation Instructions
  4.                           CD-ROM for NetWare 4.0

  7. ***Installing the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT for Use on the CD-ROM***
  8. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  9.  
  10.    To use the NetWare 4.0 CBT on your CD-ROM, complete the following steps:
  11.  
  12.    1.   Create a NOVINI directory on a local drive or a network drive.  
  13.  
  14.         MD NOVINI
  15.  
  16.    2.   Copy the contents of the NOVINI directory from the CD-ROM to the
  17.         NOVINI directory you have created.  The NOVINI directory is located
  18.         under the CBT directory on your CD-ROM.  The directory contains two
  19.         files:  INT40.INI and INT40.TBK.
  20.  
  21.    3.   Set the NOVINI environment variable in the system login script, your
  22.         personal login script, or in your autoexec.bat file to point to the
  23.         new NOVINI subdirectory.  Below are examples of how to set the
  24.         environment variable.  Change the path to indicate the location of 
  25.         the NOVINI directory which you have created.
  26.  
  27.         Login Script:         DOS SET NOVINI="Z:\\NOVINI"
  28.         AUTOEXEC.BAT file:    SET NOVINI=Z:\NOVINI
  29.  
  30.    4.   Give CBT users DIRECTORY/FILE CREATE/READ/WRITE rights to the NOVINI
  31.         directory. User records will be written to individual subdirectories
  32.         in this directory.
  33.  
  34.    5.   Verify that the following equipment is at each workstation:
  35.  
  36.         IBM PC (or compatible) with 386 or Higher Processor
  37.         DOS 3.1 or Higher
  38.         4 MB RAM (Minimum)
  39.         Windows 3.1 (386 enhanced mode)
  40.         Mouse for Use with Windows
  41.         VGA Monitor and Graphics Adapter
  42.  
  43.    6.   The INT40.INI file contains two user variables. The first variable
  44.         should point to the location of the CBT files on the CD-ROM which 
  45.         is CBT\COURSE7. The second variable should point to the location of
  46.         the user files (the created NOVINI). Edit the INT40.INI file in the
  47.         NOVINI directory to show the location of the files:
  48.  
  49.         NOVCBT=D:\CBT\COURSE7    (Change drive letter to CD-ROM drive.)
  50.         USERCBT=C:\NOVINI        (Change to full path of NOVINI created
  51.                                  above.)

  53.    7.   Create the icon for the NetWare 4.0 CBT in Windows with the Program
  54.         Manager/File option.  Use the following command line:
  55.  
  56.         D:\CBT\COURSE7\TBOOK.EXE D:\CBT\COURSE7\COURSE7
  57.  
  58.         Edit the command line shown above to reflect the drive letter where
  59.         the CD-ROM is located on your system.
  60.  
  61.         The working directory should be set to the NOVINI directory.
  62.  
  63.    8.   Login or reboot so that the environment variable becomes effective.
  64.         Click on the CBT icon to access the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT.

  68.                 *** Customizing the CBT Configuration ***
  69. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

  71.    You can change the configuration of the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT
  72.    for your file server or workstations. If you do so, use the default as an
  73.    example and consider the following:
  74.  
  75.    1.   Set the NOVINI variable in the system login script to the desired
  76.         directory. If you don't want to set the environment variable for
  77.         everyone, then create a group of CBT users and set the NOVINI
  78.         variable in an if-then statement. If running the CBT on a standalone
  79.         workstation, set the NOVINI variable in the autoexec.bat file.

  81.    2.   Put INT40.INI in the directory where the NOVINI variable points.
  82.  
  83.    3.   Modify the two user variables in the INT40.INI file. The NOVCBT
  84.         variable must point to the location of the CBT files. The USERCBT
  85.         variable must point to the directory where you want the individual
  86.         subdirectories created for the user records.

  88.    4.   Put INT40.TBK in the directory where the USERCBT variable points.
  89.  
  90.    5.   Set the appropriate Rights. Set all CBT files to
  91.         READ-ONLY/SHAREABLE. Set the INT40.TBK file to READ/WRITE/SHAREABLE.
  92.         Give the CBT users the DIRECTORY/FILE CREATE/READ/WRITE rights to
  93.         the directory where INT40.TBK is located.

  95.    6.   For the CBT icon, the command line should include the path to the
  96.         TBOOK.EXE file and the path to the COURSE7 file. The working
  97.         directory should be the same path as where the USERCBT variable
  98.         points.

  101.            *** Verifying the Default Directories and Files ***
  102. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  103.  
  104.    For your information, the default directory structure and important files
  105.    for the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT are listed below.
  106.  
  107.    NOVINI Directory
  108.  
  109.         INT40.INI
  110.         This file contains the user variables for the location of the CBT
  111.         files (NOVCBT) and points to the root location of the user files
  112.         (USERCBT). This file must always reside in the location pointed to
  113.         by the environment variable NOVINI as identified in the system login
  114.         script.
  115.  
  116.         INT40.TBK
  117.         This file is needed to create the user files.
  118.  
  119.         Users files
  120.         When the user "logs" in to the CBT, an individual user file is
  121.         created at the location named by the USERCBT variable in the
  122.         INT40.INI file. The name of the file corresponds to the first name
  123.         given and a unique number associated with the CBT "login" name.

  125.    COURSE7 Directory
  126.  
  127.         TBOOK.EXE
  128.         This file executes Toolbook runtime. Toolbook is a Windows
  129.         application development system.
  130.  
  131.         TBKNET.EXE
  132.         This file is used by TBOOK.EXE.
  133.  
  134.         *.TBK
  135.         These are the Toolbook runtime CBT lessons and miscellaneous files
  136.         such as the glossary file.
  137.  
  138.         *.DLL
  139.         These Toolbook runtime files are the dynamically linked libraries.
