Introduction to NetWare 4.0
Computer-Based Training (CBT) Installation Instructions
CD-ROM for NetWare 4.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Installing the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT for Use on the CD-ROM***
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
To use the NetWare 4.0 CBT on your CD-ROM, complete the following steps:
1. Create a NOVINI directory on a local drive or a network drive.
MD NOVINI
2. Copy the contents of the NOVINI directory from the CD-ROM to the
NOVINI directory you have created. The NOVINI directory is located
under the CBT directory on your CD-ROM. The directory contains two
files: INT40.INI and INT40.TBK.
3. Set the NOVINI environment variable in the system login script, your
personal login script, or in your autoexec.bat file to point to the
new NOVINI subdirectory. Below are examples of how to set the
environment variable. Change the path to indicate the location of
the NOVINI directory which you have created.
Login Script: DOS SET NOVINI="Z:\\NOVINI"
AUTOEXEC.BAT file: SET NOVINI=Z:\NOVINI
4. Give CBT users DIRECTORY/FILE CREATE/READ/WRITE rights to the NOVINI
directory. User records will be written to individual subdirectories
in this directory.
5. Verify that the following equipment is at each workstation:
IBM PC (or compatible) with 386 or Higher Processor
DOS 3.1 or Higher
4 MB RAM (Minimum)
Windows 3.1 (386 enhanced mode)
Mouse for Use with Windows
VGA Monitor and Graphics Adapter
6. The INT40.INI file contains two user variables. The first variable
should point to the location of the CBT files on the CD-ROM which
is CBT\COURSE7. The second variable should point to the location of
the user files (the created NOVINI). Edit the INT40.INI file in the
NOVINI directory to show the location of the files:
NOVCBT=D:\CBT\COURSE7 (Change drive letter to CD-ROM drive.)
USERCBT=C:\NOVINI (Change to full path of NOVINI created
above.)
7. Create the icon for the NetWare 4.0 CBT in Windows with the Program
Manager/File option. Use the following command line:
D:\CBT\COURSE7\TBOOK.EXE D:\CBT\COURSE7\COURSE7
Edit the command line shown above to reflect the drive letter where
the CD-ROM is located on your system.
The working directory should be set to the NOVINI directory.
8. Login or reboot so that the environment variable becomes effective.
Click on the CBT icon to access the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** Customizing the CBT Configuration ***
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can change the configuration of the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT
for your file server or workstations. If you do so, use the default as an
example and consider the following:
1. Set the NOVINI variable in the system login script to the desired
directory. If you don't want to set the environment variable for
everyone, then create a group of CBT users and set the NOVINI
variable in an if-then statement. If running the CBT on a standalone
workstation, set the NOVINI variable in the autoexec.bat file.
2. Put INT40.INI in the directory where the NOVINI variable points.
3. Modify the two user variables in the INT40.INI file. The NOVCBT
variable must point to the location of the CBT files. The USERCBT
variable must point to the directory where you want the individual
subdirectories created for the user records.
4. Put INT40.TBK in the directory where the USERCBT variable points.
5. Set the appropriate Rights. Set all CBT files to
READ-ONLY/SHAREABLE. Set the INT40.TBK file to READ/WRITE/SHAREABLE.
Give the CBT users the DIRECTORY/FILE CREATE/READ/WRITE rights to
the directory where INT40.TBK is located.
6. For the CBT icon, the command line should include the path to the
TBOOK.EXE file and the path to the COURSE7 file. The working
directory should be the same path as where the USERCBT variable
points.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** Verifying the Default Directories and Files ***
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
For your information, the default directory structure and important files
for the Introduction to NetWare 4.0 CBT are listed below.
NOVINI Directory
INT40.INI
This file contains the user variables for the location of the CBT
files (NOVCBT) and points to the root location of the user files
(USERCBT). This file must always reside in the location pointed to
by the environment variable NOVINI as identified in the system login
script.
INT40.TBK
This file is needed to create the user files.
Users files
When the user "logs" in to the CBT, an individual user file is
created at the location named by the USERCBT variable in the
INT40.INI file. The name of the file corresponds to the first name
given and a unique number associated with the CBT "login" name.
COURSE7 Directory
TBOOK.EXE
This file executes Toolbook runtime. Toolbook is a Windows
application development system.
TBKNET.EXE
This file is used by TBOOK.EXE.
*.TBK
These are the Toolbook runtime CBT lessons and miscellaneous files
such as the glossary file.
*.DLL
These Toolbook runtime files are the dynamically linked libraries.
