  5. The Network Support Encyclopedia Professional Volume (NSEPro) product now
  6. includes two CD-ROMs.  This addendum to the NSEPro User's Guide describes
  7. procedures for installing and downloading from these CDs.
  8.  
  9. ═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
  10. MOUNTING NSEPRO AS A NETWARE VOLUME
  11.  
  12. If you mount NSEPro on a NetWare  server, note that the volume names are
  13. NSEPRO1 for Disc 1 and NSEPRO2 for Disc 2.  Because the searchable 
  14. information is on Disc 1 and the files, patches, and drivers are on Disc 2, 
  15. the following setup options are recommended to allow you to easily download 
  16. files when mounting NSEPro on a server:
  17.  
  18. 1.   Allocate two CD drives to NSEPro.  Mount Disc 1 and Disc 2 on
  19.      your NetWare file server. Install NSEPro using the Minimum or
  20.      Standard setup option.  The first time you download a file,
  21.      select Change Defaults, and change the source directory to
  22.      the drive letter assigned to Disc 2 on the network.
  23.  
  24. 2.   Allocate one CD drive to NSEPro - Option 1.  Select the Full
  25.      installation option without including downloadable files, and
  26.      designate a network drive as your destination directory. 
  27.      When the installation is complete, mount Disc 2 on your
  28.      NetWare server.  Install NSEPro from the network
  29.      installation, using the Minimum or Standard setup option. 
  30.      The first time you download a file, select Change Defaults,
  31.      and change the source directory to the drive letter assigned
  32.      to Disc 2 on the network. 
  33.  
  34. 3.   Allocate one CD drive to NSEPro - Option 2.  Mount Disc 1 on
  35.      your NetWare server.   Select the Minimum or Standard setup
  36.      option to install from the mounted CD.  The first time you
  37.      download a file, select Change Defaults, and set the source
  38.      directory to your local CD drive.  Also select Save to List
  39.      to queue files for later download.  Each time you select a
  40.      download link and click on OK, the file will be added to the
  41.      queue.  When you are ready to download files, put Disc 2 into
  42.      your local CD drive.  Select Download All from the download
  43.      program, and the files will be copied to your destination
  44.      directory.  
  45.  
  46.      You may also copy files directly from Disc 2 using a standard DOS copy
  47.      or another copy program instead of downloading through links in NSEPro.

  51. Installing and Setting Up NSEPro for the Microsoft Windows Environment
  52.  
  53. To run NSEPro directly from the CD-ROM or to install NSEPro to another 
  54. drive in the Microsoft* Windows* environment, do the following:
  55.  
  56. 1.  Start Windows on a PC that has access to a CD-ROM drive.  
  57.     Insert NSEPro CD, Disc 1.
  58.  
  59. 2.  From the Windows Program Manager File menu, choose Run and type
  60.  
  61.     drive:SETUP
  62.  
  63.     Replace drive with the letter of your CD-ROM drive. 
  64.  
  65. 3.  Click OK.
  66.  
  67. 4.  Select the Minimum, Standard, or Full option, and click Install when 
  68.     you are ready to begin. 
  69.  
  70.          Minimum Option.  The Minimum option copies and modifies .INI 
  71.          files from the CD-ROM and creates an NSEPro program group with
  72.          appropriate icons.  The Minimum option requires the least 
  73.          amount of disk space, but requires you to change CD-ROMs when 
  74.          downloading files.
  75.  
  76.          Click Continue or press Enter for the installation to begin.
  77.  
  78.          Standard Option.  The Standard option creates the appropriate 
  79.          subdirectories and copies the necessary files in addition to 
  80.          making the changes included in the Minimum option.  The Standard
  81.          option copies the infobase engine files to your network or local 
  82.          drive, increasing the speed of access to information.  With the 
  83.          Standard option, you are also required to change CD-ROMs when
  84.          downloading files.
  85.  
  86.          The Standard Installation screen contains the following modifiable 
  87.          element:
  88.  
  89.          Install Directory.  The Install Directory box allows you to enter 
  90.          the destination where you want to install NSEPro.  If you do not 
  91.          select a location, the default (c:\nsepro) will be used.
  92.  
  93.          When you click Continue or press Enter, the installation begins.
  94.  
  95.          Full Option.  The Full option copies the infobases to a network
  96.          or local drive in addition to making the changes specified in 
  97.          the Minimum and Standard options.  You also have the option of 
  98.          installing all or some infobases and copying downloadable files.
  99.  
  100.      The Full Installation screen contains the following elements:
  101.  
  102.              Install Directory.  The Install Directory box
  103.              allows you to enter the destination where you
  104.              want to install NSEPro.  If you do not select a
  105.              location, the default (c:\nsepro) will be used.
  106.  
  107.              Install Downloadable Files.  Check the Install
  108.              Downloadable Files box if you want to have the
  109.              downloadable files copied to your network or
  110.              local drive.  When you click the box, the
  111.              number in the Space Required box changes,
  112.              reflecting the space needed for downloadable
  113.              files.  You can check and uncheck the Install
  114.              Downloadable Files box to determine space
  115.              requirements.
  116.  
  117.              Infobases to Be Installed.  The INFOBASES TO BE
  118.              INSTALLED box initially displays all available
  119.              infobases in the Install list.  If you click
  120.              Continue at this point, all infobases will be
  121.              installed to the destination specified in the
  122.              Install Directory box.  The Space Required box
  123.              will then reflect the disk space required.  If
  124.              you choose to install only some of the
  125.              infobases available, you must move those you do
  126.              not want to install to the Do Not Install list,
  127.              using the right arrows (>>).
  128.  
  129.      When you have made your selections, click Continue
  130.      or press Enter and the installation begins.
  131.  
  132. Installing and Setting Up NSEPro for the DOS Environment
  133.  
  134. To run NSEPro directly from the CD-ROM or to install
  135. NSEPro to another drive in the DOS environment, do the
  136. following:
  137.  
  138. 1.   Change to the CD-ROM drive that contains NSEPro
  139.      CD, Disc 1.
  140.  
  141. 2.   Type SETUP and press Enter.
  142.  
  143.      Information similar to the following appears:
  144.  
  145. Program Usage
  146.   SETUP <optional | args> <filespec>
  147.  
  148. <args>
  149.    /M - Minimum Setup        Copies only required files.
  150.    /S - Standard Setup       <Default>  See below.
  151.    /F - Full Setup           Copies Folio executables and infobases.
  152.    /A - Full Setup w/ Files  Copies Folio executables, infobases and
  153.                              ALL downloadable files.
  154.  
  155.   Default will copy all Folio executables for fast access, but
  156.   will leave infobase and downloadable files on the CD to save
  157.   disk space.
  158.  
  159. <filespec> - The destination directory
  160.  
  161.  
  162. 3.   Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
  163.      NSEPro setup.
  164.  
  165.      Minimum Option (/M).  The Minimum option copies
  166.      some files to your local or network drive and adds
  167.      an environment variable and path statement to your
  168.      AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  The Minimum option requires
  169.      the least amount of disk space, but requires you
  170.      to change CDs when downloading files.
  171.  
  172.      Standard Option (/S).  The Standard option creates
  173.      the appropriate subdirectories and copies the
  174.      necessary files in addition to making the changes
  175.      included in the Minimum option.  The Standard
  176.      option copies the infobase engine files to your
  177.      network or local drive, increasing the speed of
  178.      access to information.  With the Standard option,
  179.      you are also required to change CDs when
  180.      downloading files.
  181.  
  182.      Full Option (/F).  The Full option copies the infobases
  183.      to a network or local drive in addition to making the changes
  184.      specified in the Minimum and Standard options.

  186.      Full Option with Files (/A).  The Full option with Files copies
  187.      infobases as in the Full Option, but also copies the downloadable
  188.      files to your local or network drive.
  189.  
  190. 4.   Create a search drive or path statement.
  191.  
  192.      To run NSEPro from a local CD-ROM drive, include a
  193.      path to the DOS subdirectory under the PROGRAMS
  194.      directory on the CD-ROM in your PATH command. For
  195.      instance, if D: is your CD-ROM drive, your path
  196.      statement should look like this:
  197.  
  198.      PATH=D:\PROGRAMS\DOS
  199.  
  200.      To run NSEPro from a network installation, you
  201.      must set a search drive to the DOS subdirectory
  202.      under the PROGRAMS subdirectory.  For instance, if
  203.      you have installed NSEPro to the NetWare server
  204.      SUPPORT under the subdirectory NSEPRO, your search
  205.      mapping should look like this:
  206.  
  207.      S16: = X:. [SUPPORT\SYS: \NSEPRO\PROGRAMS\DOS]
  208.  
  209.      To run NSEPro from a CD-ROM drive that is
  210.      connected to a NetWare server, you must set a
  211.      search drive to the DOS subdirectory under the
  212.      PROGRAMS directory.  For instance, if your CD-ROM
  213.      drive is attached to the server SUPPORT, your
  214.      search mapping should look like this:
  215.  
  216.      S16: = X:. [SUPPORT\SYS: \NSEPRO\PROGRAMS\DOS]
  217.  
  218. Installing and Setting Up NSEPro for the Macintosh Environment
  219.  
  220. Refer to the README.MAC file at the root of the CD-ROM, Disc 1, for 
  221. instructions on installing and running NSEPro on a Macintosh*.
  222.  
  223. Downloading from NSEPro
  224.  
  225. Downloading Files, Patches, and Drivers from NSEPro
  226.  
  227. This section explains how to download files, patches,
  228. drivers, and software updates from NSEPro for the
  229. purpose of updating existing, licensed Novell 
  230. software.  This process differs slightly for the
  231. Windows, DOS, and Macintosh environments.
  232.  
  233. Note:   You can also manually copy the files contained
  234.         on NSEPro CD-ROM, Disc 2, by changing to the
  235.         appropriate subdirectory and performing a
  236.         standard copy.
  237.  
  238. Downloading Files, Patches, and Drivers in the Windows Environment
  239.  
  240. To download files in the Windows environment, do the following:
  241.  
  242. 1.   Locate the disk icon (download link) found in the
  243.      "Files, Patches, and Drivers" or "File Updates"
  244.      section of NSEPro.
  245.  
  246. 2.   Double-click the disk icon or position the cursor on the disk,
  247.      and then press Ctrl+Enter.
  248.  
  249.      The file you have selected through the link now appears in the 
  250.      Files to Download list.
  251.  
  252. 3.   Choose Download Selected, Save to List, or Download All. 
  253.  
  254.      Download Selected attempts to immediately download
  255.      the file.  If you have not run Setup using the
  256.      Full option and Downloadable Files Installed, you
  257.      are prompted to insert CD-ROM, Disc 2. 
  258.  
  259.      Save to List queues files for later download. 
  260.      Files are written to a DOWNLOAD.QUE file in the
  261.      TEMP directory, which is specified in your SET
  262.      command. 
  263.  
  264.      Download All downloads all files which have been
  265.      queued for download.
  266.  
  267. 4.   Remove or edit files in the list.
  268.  
  269.      The Remove and Edit buttons are used if you want to
  270.      remove a file from the list, edit a filename, or
  271.      modify file destinations.  The Edit button does not
  272.      change the file destination default setting.  (See
  273.      the next step.)
  274.  
  275. 5.   Change Defaults.
  276.  
  277.      During setup, the file source directory is set to the
  278.      source drive unless you install the downloadable
  279.      files.  The download destination is initially set to
  280.      the TEMP directory.  You can change the file source
  281.      or destination by clicking the Change Defaults button.
  282.  
  283. 6.   Click OK when you are ready to continue.
  284.  
  285.      The files are downloaded or added to the list
  286.      depending on which option you chose.

  288. Downloading Files, Patches, and Drivers in the DOS Environment
  289.  
  290. To download files in the DOS environment, do the following:
  291.  
  292. 1.   Locate the download link found in the "Files,
  293.      Patches, and Drivers" or "File Updates" section of
  294.      NSEPro.
  295.  
  296.      The download link appears as a box in the DOS environment.
  297.  
  298. 2.   Position the cursor on the box and press Ctrl+Enter 
  299.      (or double-click the box with a mouse).
  300.  
  301.      A screen appears listing the file to be downloaded.
  302.  
  303. 3.   (Optional) Edit the destination drive.
  304.  
  305.      The drive defaults to C:\.  You can edit this field
  306.      to point to a different drive.
  307.  
  308. 4.   Press Enter.
  309.  
  310.      The file is copied to the drive specified.
  311.  
  312. 5.   Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for each file to be
  313.      downloaded.

  315. Downloading Files, Patches, and Drivers in the Macintosh Environment
  316.  
  317. There is currently no utility for downloading files in
  318. the Macintosh environment.
