DISkASSEMBLER Ver 2.0
a review of sorts.
Written and Copyrighted 1988 by Scott Darling
Permission to reprint on NON profit medium ONLY.
DISkASSEMBLER was originally written by Tom Freeman and worked on
the 4A. It would not function on the 9640 because of the disk protection
scheme and the different keyboard scheme. Thus came about DkA ver 2.0. This
version runs on the 9640 and ONLY from MDOS mode. DkA requires ver 1.06 and
above of MDOS and 128K of memory - in other words you can not use TIMODE.
DkA comes with an original DkA manual and a 9 page addendum for
various changes and new commands.
This version comes as 3 image format files and two D/V 80 ref/def
tables for EA and XB. They can be placed on any medium as there is no disk or
file protection. Ver 2 has all the features of Ver 1.0 with the exception of
the screen window feature, removed for obvious reasons. Everything fits on 80
column very nicely!
NEW commands are as follows:
:B allows loading sequential image files. meaning ASSM1, ASSM2 and so forth.
Of course these files must have the proper flags to load this in the first
place. You wont be able to load different programs by just changing their
names to follow this sequence. I loaded all of DKA into memory in this
manner. This is an extremely nice feature.
:L is a D/F 80 loader. This allows loading of compressed or uncompressed D/F
80 code. It also allows RORG addressing. You must also load a REF/DEF table to
resolve the REF's of each file loaded which leads to the next command.
:R loads a REF/DEF table for D/F 80 code. This file can also contain defaults
for option list, printer name, and output file name.
Input allows any and all MDOS conventions, being A:, WDS1., DISK1. and so
forth. Various uses are made of TAB, control E, control s, page up, page down,
insert and delete keys for editing.
Another new feature is Control C, which brings up a catalog of a selected
device. Using A: DSK1, and WDS1 as names. Useful info will be shown is
filename, sectors, type of file, and bytes in a 3 column mode.
Some new options were added in DKA foe disassembling. They are as follows.
K - allows other than the default EA REF/DEF table. If you loaded a :R table
you will need this option invoked.
A - will toggle displaying the 6 byte header in the disassembling process if
you want to examine them.
S - toggles 64 sector or 128 sector disk dumps. Since MYWORD handles larger
files this option allows you to utilize larger files.
Z - Some program files will contain large unused areas of memory that
correspond to a BSS in the original object file. Using Z will count and keep
track of up to 30 blocks of 10 words of this type of data. Thus saving on the
output.
E - is for hidden XB assembly files to compensate for a one byte offset on
disk.
Also note that the extra 4 instructions of the 9995 are supported even tho the
4A Assembler does not support them.
