THE LIGHT WORKS CD ROM
Welcome to the "THE LIGHT WORKS"-CDROM!
1. Introduction
Raytracing - A fascinating area of the computer graphics. Pictures
from the computer, perfectly rendered, fascinates people all over the
world. The Amiga was the first computer to be used for raytracing, and
today it is still a leader, with many high quality programs. RayTracing
on the Amiga is also for beginners interesting, because this computer is
extremly cheap.
With a Raytracing program you can create interesting pictures in a
fantastic quality. A real artist of raytracing is Tobias J. Richter
from Cologne/Germany, whose detailed objects stun the people.
Especially his space ships of famous science fiction films are used to
demonstrate the capabilities of a raytracing program. The objects are
high detailed and seem very real, due to complexe surface textures,
which are applied to the models.
Until now it was difficult to acquire these objects in order to create
own scenes or animations. THE LIGHT WORKS CD-ROM are mainly objects
created by Tobias J. Richter, together with the surface textures, ready
to use in the following programs: Cinema4D, Reflections and Imagine.
For the raytracing enthusiast there are some unpublished textures for
backgrounds and detailed surfaces on this CD exclusively. But also for
those, who don't know that much about raytracing, there is some material
on the CD-ROM: more than 100 rendered pictures and several animations
demonstrate, what is possible with these objects. If you want to play
around with the objects, you can use the demo versions of Maxon Cinema4D
and Reflections on disk. These are versions with some functions
disabled.
Besides the data of Tobias J. Richter, you'll find on THE LIGHT WORKS
CD-ROM many objects, textures, pictures and animations from the PD area.
You can use these PD objects without problems in conjunction with the
objects by Tobias J. Richter, in order to create interesting scenes.
You will certainly find ideas for own scenes within the huge amount of
supplied PD pictures and animations.

Richter directly from Workbench by doubleclicking the the appropriate
icon. Default is the viewtek version for Amigas without gfx board.
Texts are being displayed using the program 'More'.
You are not forced to use a specific viewer program on this CD-ROM. In
case you want to use another program, then this is possible without
problems. You can set variables for your favourite program. You need
to set one of the following variables and your program will be accepted
for viewing. Example:
For IFF:
SetEnv CD_IFFVIEWER <Program>
For GIF:
SetEnv CD_GIFVIEWER <Program>
For ANIM:
SetEnv CD_ANIMPLAYER <Program>
For TEXT:
SetEnv CD_READER <Program>
In order to use these values permanently, add the commands to your
'User-Startup' in the drawer SYS:S or copy the files from ENV: to
ENVARC: Like this they will be used every time you boot your computer.
