This is the third set of X11R6 binaries (with fix-05) for NetBSD.
This release has only shared libs, because it takes some extra hours
to make the unshared libs. If you need unshared libs then look for the
X11R6.16Aug94-unshared.tar.gz file which has the unshared libs from the
first release.
I made only a few programms of the contrib distribution:
ctwm, listres, puzzle, showfont, viewres, xbiff, xcalc, xditview, xedit
xev, xeyes, xfontsel, xgas, xgc, xman, xmessage, xpr, xrsh
xscreensaver (sorry this can't realy look your session because it needs
Motif to open the requester)
xload (Special thanks to Chris Hopps who send a good diff for it to the
amiga-x mailinglist)
xpm (this is a library which is need by some programm like ctwm, fvwm or
xboing)
Note that I don't have tested all the programms.
So please write me an email if you find a bug in it.
The bug that you need the MANPATH for the xman programm is fixed but you
still need to edit /etc/man.conf when you don't have an link from /usr/X11R6
to /usr/local/X11R6 (You can't use normal man Xprogramm when you don't have
that).
Changes for this set of binaries:
- bugfix for the fonts (there was a problem with double byte fonts)
- xman, see above
- xterm: utmp wasn't read, so w doesn't work
- makedepend: bugfix
- cleanup in the patchfile
I made this release with the final NetBSD 1.0
Please read the X11-Faq for installing X11R6, the FAQ is for X11R5, but
there are not so much changes to it:
- The directory changed from /usr/X11R5 or /usr/X11 to /usr/local/X11R6.
Please note that this is a different path than I used in the first X11R6
release from me. I changed that after the discussion on the amiga (-dev ?)
mailinglist about optional packages who should go to /usr/local/package.
- I included an xinitrc, so you only need to add the path for
/usr/local/X11R6/bin in you .*shrc file and make an
'ldconfig /usr/local/X11R6/lib' to use the libraries (you can add the
ldconfig to your /etc/rc.local)
Then you simple can start the Xserver by typing startx in you shell.
- Or use the xdm command which has his configs in /usr/local/X11R6/lib/xdm
- The default Xserver is an MonoServer
- There is another Xserver for the RetinaZ3 or a board with has an
Ciruss Logic 5426 chip onboard (Picasso II, Spectrum, Picollo), but you
need another kernel to use the 5426 boards.
You can find this Xserver in the X11R6.04Jan95-picasso.tar.gz file,
which has also special configs for xdm and startx (simple use
tar -xpzf X11R6.04Jan95-picasso.tar.gz in the / directory to apply
and replace the old files and then edit at the new configs for your
monitor)
and last but not least there are some other very usefulle X11 files in the
11R6.04Jan95-NotXConsortium.tar.gz file (this programms are not in the offical
files which come from the XConsortium):
Mosaic (this needs an link from /usr/local/X11R6 to /usr/X11R6, but I included
this link in the other-bin archive :)
rxvt - another xterm which has a faster scrolling and is smaller then the
original xterm
xv - xv 3.10 (please read the 'About XV' requester in the Menue)
xfig - a very good tools to draw and manipulate objects
fvwm - (F(?) Virtual Window Manager for X11) this replaces twm or ctwm
Version 1.24r
erbe0011@FH-Karlsruhe.DE (Bernd Ernesti)
P.S: This is the last set of binaries for 1.0. I switch this or next week to
current so hury up if there is any problem.
