  10.     This font was inspired by the lettering used by the Great 
  11. Northern Railway on their passenger trains from the late 40's 
  12. through the mid 60's.  Looking at this typeface, it is hard to believe 
  13. that it is at least 50 years old.  The Great Northern Pictorial Volume 
  14. 3, by John F. Strauss, Jr., was a great source of photographs to work 
  15. from.

  32. <P>    Well, um... nothin'.  Only two of my fonts were spared the 
  33. revisionist touch and this was one of them.  However, I did muck 
  34. about the documentation a fair bit.  Added .AFM file for OS/2 and 
  35. Unix users.

  38. are ©1994 Benn Coifman. (that looks so nasty now that I typed it)

  54. NOW FOR THE "ASKING FOR MONEY" BIT, AKA, THIS IS SHAREWARE:
  55. <P>    You are free to use (play with, throw at the cat, etc.) this font 
  56. for one week after receiving it.  If you like it and decide to keep it, 
  57. you should send a US $10 "shareware" fee to myself at the address 
  58. below (for international users, see item 4 in "The Fine Print").  Please 
  59. include a brief note describing where you got this font, what you like 
  60. about it, and what you would like to see in the future.
  61. <P>    If you just have to have the full collection of my train fonts 
  62. (see "Product Ad"), send a couple of FORMATTED 3.5" HD disks (Two 
  63. HD for Mac, or One HD for IBM recommended) and a SELF ADDRESSED 
  64. STAMPED ENVELOPE to the address below. (I hate to format disks 
  65. and you will be sure to get the right machine, Mac or IBM, this way)
  66. <P>    I do not want to send any of my customers into bankruptcy, if 
  67. you are honestly poor, (i.e., you ain't gonna support the American 
  68. way and my education) please send a post card (the weirder the 
  69. better) describing where you got this font, what you like about it and 
  70. what you would like to see added to it.

  73. <LI>Each font or icon package is an individual product.  Thus, if you 
  74. keep Passenger Font and Freight Font, you should pay $20, not $10.
  75. <LI>You may NOT use this font in any publication or any product unless 
  76. you register your copy by sending $10 FOR EACH FONT YOU USE.  Be 
  77. sure to specify which fonts you are registering for.  It is not fair for 
  78. you to make money off of my hard work without paying the 
  79. Shareware fees.
  80. <LI>If you decide to keep several of my shareware products and you are 
  81. only using them for personal applications (or you are using them for 
  82. a struggling NONPROFIT organization promoting railroads), then $10 
  83. a piece can get to be a bit expensive.  Please pay what you think they 
  84. are worth.  I recommend $10 for the first font and $5 for each 
  85. additional font.
  86. <LI>If you do not reside in the US, then getting a check in US$ may be 
  87. difficult for you.  So, I will also accept any interesting widgets, toys, 
  88. books, time tables, postcards or what not.  What's common place to 
  89. you is quite possibly exotic for me.  By the way, I'm a rail fan (hint 
  90. hint hint)
  91. <LI>You may distribute this font for free, however, you may not sell this 
  92. font or include it in any package for sale without the written 
  93. permission of myself, Benn Coifman.  I am very agreeable to CD 
  94. ROM's and shareware packages for sale, however, I do want to retain 
  95. some degree of control over my work.  So, please contact me first.

  101. WHY SHOULD YOU SEND IN THE SHAREWARE FEE?
  102. <P>    Well, I am releasing this font in it's entirety.  I put a lot of hard 
  103. work into this font.  I have also gotten a lot of pleasure from it.  
  104. Ignoring all of the capitalistic angles, your shareware dollar will 
  105. speed up the development of new train fonts and help me afford 
  106. new font tools.  My goal is to at least break even.
  107. <P>    Only 39 people have registered my shareware products since I 
  108. first released them ten months ago.  There are a lot of expenses that 
  109. go into these fonts.  My font editor cost almost $300.  Then there are 
  110. the little expenses like ink cartridges (you wouldn't believe how 
  111. many ink cartridges I go through) and paying for a mail box.  Oy!  
  112. And you want to talk about memory... 40 Meg of hard disk devoted 
  113. to fonts and icon development.
  114. <P>    I would love to purchase the latest version of Illustrator and 
  115. produce more clip art.  I could also use more disk space to keep these 
  116. toys in.

  119. BENEFITS OF PAYING THE SHAREWARE FEE:
  120. <P>    Enough of what shareware fees do for me, what will they do for 
  121. you!?  I will spend less time on school and more time on producing 
  122. shareware.  You will also be entitled to a peek into things to come.  If 
  123. you send a disk (or two) along with your payment, I will give the 
  124. Demo font that includes all of the odd characters that haven't quite 
  125. found a home yet (including a number of steam engines!).  In 
  126. addition, I will rush you out the most recent versions of my fonts 
  127. and icons.  I might even toss in a couple of pre-release fonts.
