  7. The Stroganov Palace is located at the crossing 
  8. of |Nevsky Prospekt|Custom1|O:267| and the Moika River 
  9. embankment. Unlike the estate-type palaces 
  10. popular in those times, the Stroganov Palace 
  11. faces the |Nevsky Prospekt|Custom1|O:267| with its main facade. 
  12. On the ground floor there are auxiliary rooms 
  13. and the vestibule in front of the main staircase. 
  14. The exterior and the layout of the building are a 
  15. brilliant example of the Russian Baroque style.In 
  16. the late 18-th century the palace belonged to 
  17. Count A.Stroganov, who was an outstanding 
  18. patron of arts and the |Academy of Arts|Custom1|O:85| Presi- 
  19. dent. Stroganov supported his former serf, the 
  20. talented architect A. Voronikhin, whose first work 
  21. was to become the interior reconstruction of the 
  22. Stroganov Palace in 1793. Due to the recon- 
  23. struction a number of the first-floor interiors 
  24. were redecorated in the classical style.
