Mikhailovsky Garden is situated on the south
border of the |Field of Mars|Custom1|O:235|. At the time of Peter
the Great it took up the site of |Mikhailovsky|Custom1|O:55|
|Castle|Custom1|O:55| and was called the Third Summer
Garden. Later in 1800 archtects V.Bazhenov and
V.Brenna erected a castle for Emperor Paul I.
The same year the royal family moved into the
castle from the |Winter Palace|Custom1|O:1|. 40 days after the
move Paul I was assassinated by his close
surrounding.
Mikhailovsky Garden is a great place to rest and
relax and it is especially beautiful in autumn.
The picturesque back facade of |Mikhailovsky|Custom1|O:35|
|palace|Custom1|O:35| faces the garden. The west side of the
garden is enclosed by an exquisite iron grille
which separates the garden from the |Church on|Custom1|O:29|
|Spilled Blood|Custom1|O:29|.
