Bolshaya Morskaya Street, 39
1911-12 Architect F.Lidval
The Astoria building completed the ensemble of
|St.Isaac's Square|Custom1|O:104|. Having six stories and garret it
is higher than all the other buildings in the
|square|Custom1|O:104|. The lower stories are faced with granite.
The building's modest decoration (oval garlanded
medallions cut out in granite, masks over the
windows, embossed vases) is in harmony with the
simple architecture of the facade. The interiors
(vestibule, main staircase, big banquet hall,
etc.) were decorated in the Art-Nouveau style,
in combination with some elements of Classicism.
