  13. The new version (V1.9) of Directory Editor + Archie + Ftp (DEAF) is

  18. Youki Kadobayashi (youki-k@is.aist-nara.ac.jp) contributed the patch
  19. to the last version (V1.8). New in this version:
  20.     o Optionally use readline.pl, which supports history recall,
  21. filename expansion, and better input edit.
  22.     o Port to BSD/386.

  24. Here is a brief introduction:

  26. DEAF is a Perl script that provides the functionalities of
  27. manipulating file/directory , querying Archie server and transferring
  28. files in a full-screen fashion. Because of its embedded ftp
  29. capabilities, DEAF does not only support file/directory operations on
  30. local files/directories, it also allows most of those operations (like
  31. view, edit, delete, rename, etc) to apply to the files/directories
  32. which are located at remote machines. The search results from Archie
  33. server can be directly used to retrieve the programs.

  35. DEAF is based on termcap, it should work on Unix machines.
