  8. All users shall use computing facilities in a manner which is ethical, legal,
  9. and not contrary to the interests of others, including MTEK International,
  10. Inc. ("the company").
  11.  
  12. 1.  Scope
  13.  
  14. Computing facilities are those operated by or for the benefit of the company,
  15. and provided for authorized use only by local and remote authorized users.
  16.  
  17. "Policy" refers only to those collective electronic documents accessible to
  18. authorized users under the 'policy' menu and marked with the symbol "(!)",
  19. as shown at the top of this document.
  20.  
  21. All other menu-items are merely advisory, providing approved information
  22. which the user may rely upon.
  23.  
  24. 2.  Application
  25.  
  26. All users shall strictly adhere to both the letter and spirit of the policies
  27. provided to assure a predictable computing environment secure for all users.
  28.  
  29. System administrators (persons having 'root' permission) may occasionally have
  30. to stray from the letter of these policies, but may *never* violate its spirit.
  31. If in doubt, they shall seek consultation.
  32.  
  33. 3.  Basic Provisions
  34.  
  35. Failure to abide with the following general rules may result in loss of login
  36. access:
  37.  
  38.    *     You may only use those facilities which have been authorized
  39.     for your use. If access is protected by a password, you are not
  40.     to make this password available to others, nor allow someone else
  41.     to give his password to you or use your account. You may not
  42.     attempt to find out the password of another user, nor abet such
  43.     attempt by any other person.
  44.  
  45.    *     You may use authorized facilities only for authorized purposes.
  46.  
  47.    *     You must be aware of the law of copyright as it affects computer
  48.     software. A formal copyright need not be in evidence for legal
  49.     copyright protection to be in force.
  50.     
  51.    *    You are the copyright owner of any file which you solely create
  52.     for your own exclusive use. Any other file is copyright either
  53.     by the company, by commercial vendors, or by other individual
  54.     users, and it is illegal for you to reproduce such file in any
  55.     part or in any form, except where required by company business,
  56.     or else by written permission of the copyright owner.

  58.    *     You may not attempt to interfere with the present or future oper-
  59.     ation of any computing facility.
  60.  
  61.    *     You may not attempt to subvert -- or abet others to subvert -- the
  62.     security of any computing facility.
  63.  
  64.    *    You may not interfere with use by any other authorized user, nor
  65.     compromise the confidentiality of the company's internal business
  66.     practices or records.
  67.  
  68.    *     You may not use the company's computing facilities to send messages
  69.     which are manifestly obscene or otherwise harassing.
  70.  
  71. 4.  Right of Free Speech
  72.  
  73. You may disagree with any or all computer resource policies, either publically
  74. or privately, in accordance with your First Amendment rights.  However, you
  75. may not violate any published policy for any reason or cause.

  77. 5. Right of Appeal
  78.  
  79. If any policy has provisions you dislike, please notify the system manager
  80. describing your concerns and/or suggestions. You have the right of appeal
  81. to the President, MTEK International, regarding any policy provision or
  82. interpretation thereof.

  84. 6.  Administration
  85.  
  86. All policies must be endorsed by the President, MTEK International, Inc.,
  87. before they may be placed in force. Policies may be modified only by formal
  88. change, followed by adequate public notice to all login users.

  90. 7.  Disclaimer

  98. *    the computing services offered, or their fitness for any particular  *

  108. 8.  Agreement to Comply
  109.  
  110. You implicitly acknowledge, by continued system use, your agreement to comply
  111. with all published policies governing the use of this system.

  113. You also agree to read all future system 'news' messages containing the word
  114. "policy", since these will contain information announcing specific policy
  115. changes which are of substance.
