- The following is a status report on items of interest to the
- PASC/SEC working groups concerning balloting issues.
-
-
- 1. IEEE Balloting Contacts
-
- As a reminder, Anne O'Neill (Staff Engineer at the IEEE Standards
- Department in Piscataway, NJ) serves as the project manager for the
- IEEE POSIX balloting efforts; she handles all general planning and
- policies for the assorted POSIX working groups ballots. Anne can
- be reached at 908-562-3809. Anna Kaczmarek (908 562 3811) is
- responsible for all invitations to ballot. Carol Buonfiglio (908
- 562 3834) handles all other ballot related activities: all ballots
- sent out for the first time, all reballots, and all recirculation
- ballots.
-
-
- 2. Current Balloting Group Status
-
- Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to create and
- complete the 1224, 1224.1 and 1224.2 (1003.17) IEEE Standards
- (with associated language bindings and test methods); they were
- approved at the March 1993 IEEE Standards Board Meeting!
-
- As of April 7, the following groups are at some stage of the
- balloting process:
-
- PASC/SEC - Ballot resolution.
-
- P1003.0 - Ballot resolution.
-
- P1003.1LIS/.16 - Ballot resolution.
-
- P1003.3.2 - Recirculation ballot closed 3/93; in ballot
- resolution.

-
- P1003.15 - Recirculation ballot closed 3/93; in ballot resolution.
-
- P1201.2 - Ballot resolution.

-
- 3. Call for Balloting Groups Formation
-
- The IEEE office is planning to send out a letter to the PASC
- balloting pool on April 30, 1993 (after the April 1993 POSIX
- meetings) inviting them to joint the balloting group(s) for our
- next round of standards ready to go to ballot. The invitation will
- close on June 7, 1993 allowing for first ballots to be sent out
- after that date. As of April 7, 1993, two groups have identified a
- need to form new balloting groups:
-
- o 1003.20 (Ada Realtime APIs)
-
- o 1238.0 (FTAM Support Functions)
-
- As of April 7, the IEEE office plans to keep the balloting fee at
- $50 per group. If you need to form a balloting group, please
- contact Lorraine Kevra or Anne O'Neill after the Irvine POSIX
- meetings. Please note: If there are balloting dependencies on
- other document(s), the instructions on how to obtain them must be
- provided by the ballot coordinator to the IEEE office.
-
-
- 4. Recirculation Balloting Period
-
- There has been a change to the balloting procedures as documented
- in the IEEE Standards Operations Manual and IEEE Standards Board
- Bylaws (dated December 1992). Ballots will close on the deadline
- (given 75% return has been achieved), or when 75% return is
- achieved or 60 days after the published closing date, whichever
- occurs first. You must receive a 75% response in this new time

- frame, or there is the potential that your document will be at risk
- to continue balloting, especially during its first ballot attempt.
-
-
- 5. Overlapping Balloting Windows
-
- Just a reminder to reserve your balloting window with Lorraine
- Kevra as soon as possible -- it's first come, first serve for
- balloting time periods on the calendar. Other requests will be
- staggered to give balloters adequate time to comment on drafts, and
- to give the IEEE office an appropriate amount of time to copy and
- distribute ballots.
-
-
- 6. Balloting Group Membership

- Following is the latest balloting membership figures:

- 7. Conclusion
-
- PASC is making good progress in bringing completed documents to the
- IEEE Standards Board and there are numerous parallel groups
- progressing their documents. PASC has strong advocates on the IEEE
- Standards Board since both Jim Isaak and Lorraine Kevra are members
- of the Board for 1993. There is the potential for overlapping
- balloting windows, and I will be watching closely to make sure that
- the PASC balloters are not overwhelmed by the number of drafts
- coming their way.
-
- I welcome you input on this status report and suggestions on topics
- you would like covered in upcoming balloting status reports.
