  14. Well, here is the official announcement:

  16.   "X/Open is terminating the Application Registration program.
  17.    Originally launched in January, '92, the program was intended
  18.    to address a user and ISV need to identify software which runs
  19.    on XPG branded platforms.  Since that time, large users
  20.    including the X/Open user council have expressed a need for
  21.    automated test tools which verify conformance of software
  22.    products to X/Open's XPG specifications.  This is becoming
  23.    increasingly important as heretofore proprietary systems are
  24.    XPG branded.  Because the current Application Registration
  25.    program does nothing to verify application conformance to XPG,
  26.    the X/Open Board on October 21st decided to cancel the
  27.    program."

  29. But in case you didn't see my note last time, please don't confuse
  30. the verification of APPLICATIONS with the verification of the
  31. platforms, (or pieces of them) that SUPPORT applications.
  32. X/Open's branding program for these has never been stronger or
  33. more active:  The XPG4 branding program was launched on October
  34. 22, with 67 new branded products available immediately:  65 XPG4
  35. components, and 2 XPG4 Base Profiles!
