  3.     ken thompson has just finished implementing the posix sort
  4. for plan 9. he asked me when and why the following had changed
  5. and I didn't know. does anyone know why
  6.  
  7.     1) the character offsets in sort keys now have origin 1 counting
  8. (it used to be +3 == +3.0 but now is +3.1)
  9.  
  10.     2) the end of the key is now inclusive, not exclusive (it used to be
  11. you specified the first char NOT in the key)
  12.  
  13.     i would be pleased if someone who knows why this happened
