  8. In the case of several of the POSIX subgroups, the alternative to having
  9. a POSIX committee settle on a standard by consensus is to have one of the
  10. crazies at NIST issue one by fiat.  Those people have done a tremendous
  11. disservice to the computing community by forcing standardization of areas
  12. that are nowhere near ready for it.  (They have *probably* made some
  13. positive contribution by pressuring the saner POSIX committees to actually
  14. get something out the door... but I don't think it makes up for the damage
  15. they've done.)
