- IEEE P1003.7 POSIX is about to start a "mock ballot" of the
- POSIX Print System Requirements. POSIX is a group of IEEE
- sponsored standards defining a UNIX-like operating
- environment. The System Administration Working Group
- (1003.7) is the group responsible for system administration
- standards (i.e. the type of operations traditionally found
- in section 8 of the user manuals--fsck, lpc, mkfs, etc).
- The document ready for mock ballot is 1003.7.1, Draft
- Standard for Information Technology--Portable Operating
- System Interface(POSIX)--System Adminstration
- Interface/Printing.
-
- A mock ballot is an unofficial, non-binding version of the
- regular ballot procedures. It is performed to get early
- feedback on the direction a standard is taking. 1003.7 has
- adopted MIT's Palladium printing system as the base for its
- printing standard, and one of the goals of this mock ballot
- is to test the acceptability of this choice.
-
- Even if you cannot fully participate in the mock ballot,
- 1003.7 would greatly appreciate feedback on the choice of
- Palladium as the base for this document. While we would
- appreciate extensive comments, a simple yes vote, or a no
- vote with an explanation about why Palladium is not an
- acceptable base, would be very helpful.
-
- Please fill out the attached form should you wish to join
- the mock ballot group.

- INVITATION TO JOIN P1003.7 MOCK BALLOT GROUP
-
- The IEEE POSIX P1003.7 System Administration Working Group has
- been developing the POSIX printing inteface, P1003.7.1. This
- standard describes the requirements for printing and printing ad-
- ministration. P1003.7 will be conducting a mock ballot of the
- 1003.7.1 starting May 14, 1992 and running until June 30, 1992.
- The purpose of this ballot is to seek feedback on this work from
- those interested parties who have been inside and outside the
- development process and to prepare for the formal ballot which is
- tentatively scheduled for the second half of 1992. If you pro-
- vide an E-mail address, we will send the draft in Post Script
- form via this method. If you require a hard copy of the draft,
- we will make every effort to have it in the mail no later than
- the start of balloting . Please indicate your desire to partici-
- pate in this P1003.7.1 Mock Ballot by sending the following in-
