- From time to time, people have asked if posix drafts
- were available online. The answer is of course no. (don't ask me why.)
-
- The reasons I've heard are (1) IEEE loses revenue and (2) how can one be sure
- that the standard hasn't been altered.
-
- My personal belief is that objection #2 can be met by using the MD4 signature
- system -- witness the X-MD4-Signature header in this posting (I hope).
- Obtaining the MD4 signatures for particular documents could easily be done
- through an 800 (free to caller) or 900 (pay for call plus toll charges) number
- without any human intervention, or by mail, or for the truely paranoid, by
- registered mail.
-
- Of course, objection #1 still remains. I wonder how much exactly the IEEE
- makes by selling standards, or more interestingly, how much they would lose if
- they implemented an electronic form of transfer.
