  16. In light of last year's successful workshop on Large Installation
  17. Systems Administration, Alix Vasilatos will again be chairing a workshop
  18. on this subject in Monterey, CA on Thursday and Friday, November 17th
  19. and 18th, 1988.  There is demonstrable benefit in bringing together
  20. system administrators of sites with 100 or more users (on one or more
  21. processors) to compare notes on solutions that they have found for a
  22. variety of common problems.  These include but are not limited to:
  23.  
  24.           Large file systems (dumps, networked file systems)
  25.           Password file administration
  26.           Large mail system administration
  27.           USENET/News/Notes administration
  28.           Heterogeneous environments (mixed vendor and/or version)
  29.           Load control and batch systems
  30.           Monitoring tools
  31.           Software release to multiple systems
  32.           Output device management
  33.  
  34. We are particularly interested in technical solutions to problems 
  35. involving changes which directly affect users.  
  36.  
  37. The workshop will focus on short papers and presentations.  Please
  38. submit (electronically, to alix@athena.MIT.EDU) a one or two page
  39. single-spaced summary describing the solution to a problem.  Include
  40. a description of the unique characteristics of the site, an outline
  41. of the problem, and a description of the solution (detailed enough
  42. that fellow administrators can implement it).  Workshop proceedings 
  43. will be available at the workshop.
