  13. The Institute for Computer Sciences and Technology (ICST) at  the
  14. National  Bureau  of Standards (NBS) will hold a two-day workshop
  15. on Testing Conformance to Software Standards.  Four  major  topic
  16. areas  will  be addressed: (1) graphics; (2) data management; (3)
  17. office systems/document interchange; and (4) UNIX-derived operat-
  18. ing system environments [UNIX is a trademark of AT&T].
  19.  
  20. The workshop will be held June 9-10, 1986 at  NBS,  Gaithersburg,
  21. Maryland.

  23. NBS/ICST is considering adopting the  full  use  version  of  the
  24. IEEE/P1003  Standard  for  Portable Operating System for Computer
  25. Environments as a Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS).
  26. The  IEEE/P1003 standard is intended to provide a vendor indepen-
  27. dent specification for UNIX-derived operating  systems.   It  was
  28. approved  as  a trial use standard by IEEE in March, 1986.  It is
  29. currently being evaluated via the IEEE trial use procedures.

  31. In support of the planned Federal standard, ICST is exploring al-
  32. ternatives for conformance testing.  This workshop is intended to
  33. solicit vendor input on issues relating  to  conformance  testing
  34. for the proposed Federal standard.

  38.         - test suite selection
  39.  
  40.         - test suite availability
  41.  
  42.         - test suite administration
  43.                 - who runs the tests
  44.                 - where the tests are run
  45.                 - when the tests are run
  46.                 - how results are certified
  47.  
  48.         - test suite maintenance
