  1. Here is the schedule for currently planned IEEE P1003 committee meetings
  2. and related events.  (Courtesy of Doug Gwyn:  I lost my notes on this.)

  4. 14-Oct        Revised spec (P1003/D5) online and in IEEE office
  5.         Start of document review, mass mailing to Working Group
  6. 01-Nov        Technical review, Steering Committee meets in Dallas for
  7.         editing session
  8. 04-Nov        Master copy of document to IEEE
  9. 08-Nov        Mail document for balloting
  10.         Technical review and ballot resolution begins too
  11. 11-Dec        End of balloting
  12.         Ballot resolution continues
  13. 13..15-Jan    P1003 meeting in Denver to review comments and
  14.         proposed responses
  15. 21..31-Jan    Window during which ballot responses can be changed
  16. 15-Feb        Final document submitted to IEEE Standards Board
  17. 22-Mar        IEEE Standards Board meeting
  18.  
  19. P1003/D5 will be Draft Five and is intended to contain changes
  20. agreed upon at the recent meeting near Washington, D.C.
  21. I will make it available as the current draft when I get
  22. a copy of it.  This will probably be after the Steering
  23. Committee meeting at the beginning of November.

  25. The "Final document" referred to here is the one which
  26. is intended to become the trial use standard.  That will stand
  27. for some period of time, possibly a year, and then be followed
  28. by the real standard, which will be developed from experience
  29. gained from the trial use standard.

  31. The meeting in Dallas this November is of a small group and is
  32. basically for technical editing, to pull the document into a
  33. more self-consistent form.  The next full meeting of the committee
  34. will be in January in Denver, in conjunction with the USENIX
  35. conference, and is hoped to be the last one before the trial
  36. use document is submitted to IEEE.

  38. This schedule may slip if any form of the document is not ready
  39. at its particular deadline.

  41. There will probably be a meeting in April, place indeterminate
  42. at the moment, and likely another in June in Atlanta in conjunction
  43. with the USENIX Conference there.

  45. Some P1003 committee members will be attending upcoming X3J11 
  46. committee meetings to help promote coordination between the
  47. two committees.
