  1. The IEEE P1003 Portable Operating Systems Environment Committee
  2. (note the name change to avoid using the trademarked word UNIX)
  3. met in Tyson's Corner Virginia (just outside of Washington D.C.)
  4. last week.  A number of things were accomplished, many of which
  5. I will report on in this newsgroup.  Among them are relations
  6. with the X3J11 C standards committee, access to the P1003 draft
  7. standard, various issues relating to specific sections of the
  8. current draft, and the schedule for further meetings and balloting.

  10. A couple of people have complained that digest format is inappropriate
  11. for this newsgroup.  Since the volume is, ah, shall we say, low,
  12. I don't have any strong feeling one way or the other.  So, from
  13. now on mod.std.unix will not use digest format.  If you have
  14. an opinion one way or the other, mail a note to std-unix-request.

  16. I'm also not going to post all the access information in every article.
  17. Here it is once, and I'll probably repeat it now and then.

  19. The USENET newsgroup mod.std.unix is for discussions of UNIX standards,
  20. particularly the IEEE P1003 draft standard.  It is also distributed
  21. in an ARPA Internet mailing list.  I'm the moderator, which mostly
  22. means I post what you send me.
