  4. Description:
  5. This is the current German version of the DOS Compatibility
  6. Software for 630, 640 and 6100 DOS Compatible systems only.
  7. It replaces PC Setup 1.0.7. Please refer to the Read Me
  8. document and manual included with this software for complete
  9. information.

  18. This software consists of a self-extracting archive of a
  19. Disk Copy 1440K Macintosh disk image, and two Disk Copy
  20. 1440K DOS disk images.  To use, download, double-click the
  21. downloaded file (this decompresses it), and use Disk Copy to
  22. create the disks.
  23.  
  24. Disk Copy can be found in the Utilities folder posted here.

  26. If you are using a Power Macintosh or Performa 6100 series
  27. DOS Compatible System, you can use Operating System 7.1.2 or
  28. 7.5.3 with the DOS Compatibility Software Update.
  29.  
  30. If you are using a Macintosh Performa 630, Quadra 630, or
  31. Performa 640CD DOS Compatible, you should use System 7.5.3
  32. with the DOS Compatibility Software Update.
  33.  
  34. If you are currently using System 7.5, 7.5.1, or 7.5.2, you
  35. should install the System 7.5 Update 2.0 to update to System
  36. 7.5.3. You can order System 7.5 Update 2.0 on a CD or a high
  37. density floppy disk set for $13 shipping/handling plus tax
  38. from the Apple Order Center by calling 1-800-293-6617,
  39. extension 984.

  41. For PC Compatibility Card users, System 7.5 Update 2.0 is on
  42. the PC Compatibility Card Mac OS Software CD. To install the
  43. update, follow the instructions in the PC Compatibility Card
  44. User's Manual.

  46. External PC-Formatted SCSI Devices
  47.  
  48. If you use a dedicated PC-formatted partition or SCSI device
  49. instead of a drive container, you may experience some disk
  50. read/write errors. Apple recommends using drive containers
  51. on Macintosh-formatted partitions or SCSI devices as your
  52. primary method of data storage.

  54. Installing Windows 95 Operating System
  55.  
  56. Follow these guidelines when you install Windows 95 on your
  57. system:
  58.  
  59. Lock your installation disks. Select "Continue" instead of
  60. "Retry" at the end of disk 2. If you choose to make a
  61. startup disk, make sure the disk is already formatted. An
  62. unformatted disk will not be recognized. After you are done
  63. with the installation, refer to the PC Compatibility Card
  64. User's Manual for information about setting up printing.
  65. During installation, do not print the test page when you are
  66. prompted to do so.

  68. International Keyboard Support
  69.  
  70. If you are using an international keyboard, be sure to
  71. install and use the keyboard files on the PC Utilities CD or
  72. from the third disk image included with this software.
  73. (The supported languages vary from country to country.) The
  74. keyboard files that come with Windows and Windows 95 may not
  75. work with your keyboard.

  77. INSTALLING APPLE KEYBOARD FILES ON WINDOWS 3.1
  78.  
  79. 1.  Start Windows. 
  80. 2.  Insert the "International keyboard files" floppy in the
  81.     drive. 
  82. 3.  Open the International control panel. 
  83. 4.  Select the desired language in the Keyboard layout area;
  84.     then click OK. 
  85. 5.  In the Install Driver dialog box, click Browse. 
  86. 6.  Select the appropriate drive containing the keyboard
  87.     file of the desired language.  
  88.     (Keyboard files have .dll file name extensions).  The
  89.      path is 
  90.     <floppy drive>\KEYBOARD\WIN31\<language>\<filename>.dll 
  91. 7.  Select the desired file, then close the control panel
  92.     and restart Windows.

  95. INSTALLING APPLE KEYBOARD FILES ON WINDOWS 95
  96.  
  97. 1.  Start Windows 95 and click the Start button. 
  98. 2.  Verify the keyboard file (file names have .kbd
  99.     extension) for the desired language 
  100.     does not exist the System directory (under the Windows
  101.     directory). Otherwise, delete it by dragging the file
  102.     in the Recycle Bin and deleting. 
  103. 3.  Click on Settings; then select Control Panel. 
  104. 4.  Double click on the Keyboard icon. 
  105. 5.  Click on the Language tab. 
  106. 6.  If the language you desire to install already appears in
  107.     the language list, select it and click on the Remove
  108.     button. 
  109. 7.  Click on the Add button. 
  110. 8.  In the list that appears, select the desired language
  111.     and click OK. 
  112. 9.  Click the name of the language whose keyboard layout you
  113.     want to use; then click Set as Default. 
  114. 10. On the bottom of the window, click on the Apply button. 
  115. 11. At this point, a small dialog box for locating the
  116.     keyboard file will appear if Windows is searching for
  117.     the keyboard file for the first time. 
  118. 12. Insert the "International keyboard files" floppy in the
  119.     drive. 
  120. 13. Click on the Browse button; then select the floppy
  121.     drive. 
  122. 14. In the Folders window, locate the folder containing the
  123.     desired file, then click OK.  
  124.     The path is:  <floppy drive>\KEYBOARD\WIN95\<language> 
  125. 15. Make sure to switch the language in the keyboard bar on
  126.     bottom right hand 
  127.     (this bar is where the current time appears).
  128. 16. Restart any applications that were running during the
  129.     keyboard installation
  130.     to active recently selected keyboard file.

  132. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  133.  
  134. The keyboard drivers included on the "International keyboard
  135. files" floppy correspond to the keyboard layout of the Apple
  136. Design Keyboard and the Apple ISO Extended Keyboard II. 
  137. Some of the drivers are updates to the ones included on the
  138. PC Utility CD; users should install keyboard files from the
  139. floppy rather than from the CD.

  141. Keyboard drivers are included for Window 3.1 and Windows 95
  142. in support the  following layouts:  Belgian, British,
  143. Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French-Canadian, French, German,
  144. Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish, Swiss-French 
  145.  
  146. In some drivers, the numeric separator in the numeric
  147. keypad does not match the separator of the Apple Design
  148. Keyboard and the Apple ISO Extended Keyboard II.  If that is
  149. the case with your desired keyboard driver, you should enter
  150. the separator from the main portion of the keyboard.

  153. Using a CD-ROM Drive
  154.  
  155. Currently, the PC Compatibility Card only recognizes the
  156. following types of CDs: PC format (ISO 9660), dual format
  157. (disks formatted for both the Macintosh and PCs), and audio.
  158. Some specialized formats are not supported.
  159.  
  160. Macintosh System
  161.  
  162. Starting Up the PC and Macintosh Environments
  163.  
  164. Allow the Macintosh to completely finish rebuilding the
  165. desktop before attempting to switch to the PC environment.
  166. If you switch during the rebuilding of the desktop, a system
  167. "freeze" could occur.
  168.  
  169. Also, the Energy dialog box may appear each time you start
  170. your Macintosh; you can turn off this message at startup by
  171. opening and closing the Energy Saver control panel.
  172.  
  173. If you set up your Macintosh to switch to the PC environment
  174. on startup, disable the shut down warning in the General
  175. Controls control panel. Otherwise, you may have to wait for
  176. your Macintosh to start up when you switch back to the
  177. Macintosh environment.

  180. Working with Locked PC Containers
  181.  
  182. You cannot boot from a locked PC container, a PC container
  183. that is open on your desktop, or a PC container that is on a
  184. write-protected file server.
  185.  
  186. You may not be able to mount a locked PC container if file
  187. sharing is turned on. You can correct the problem by either
  188. unlocking the PC container or turning off file sharing.
  189.  
  190. Configuring Serial Ports in PC Setup Control Panel
  191.  
  192. After mapping and remapping a PC COM port to one of the
  193. Macintosh serial ports, you may have to restart the PC and
  194. the Macintosh for the remapping to take effect.
  195.  
  196. If you are using Apple Remote Access (ARA) 2.0 or 2.0.1, you
  197. may not be able to start your Macintosh properly after
  198. mapping a PC COM port to a Macintosh serial port. To correct
  199. the problem, restart while holding down the Shift key to
  200. temporarily turn off all system extensions. Then remove the
  201. Serial Port Arbitrator from the Extensions folder inside
  202. your System Folder, and restart your computer. (Prior to
  203. using ARA, unmap the PC COM port and restart your
  204. Macintosh.)

  206. You can also correct this problem by upgrading to ARA 2.1
  207. when it is available.

  212. software and for DOS 6.22 because it is included with the PC
  213. Compatibility Card. If you are having a problem with
