- SPECIAL NOTES:
- ---------------
-
- (1) Total disk space required to install all PCRX files, including
- PCRX utilities and documentation files, is 360K bytes.
-
-
- (2) Compatibility with Ashton-Tate dBASE IV
-
- (A) During the installation process of dBASE IV, the dBASE.EXE file
- is modified in a way that is identified as a virus by the PCRX
- Sensor program.
-
- Solution: (a) Before installing dBASE IV, please turn the PCRX
- Sensor off or
- (b) Select [C] to continue if the following PCRX
- warning message appears when installing DBASE
- SYSTEM DISK #1:
-
- ------------------PCRX Warning-------------------
- | A virus has been found in the system memory. |
- | |
- | DBASE.EXE |
- | The above file may have been infected. |
- | |
- | [S]-Solution [C]-Continue |
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- After installing dBASE IV, the PCRX Sensor program may be
- turned on without any further interference.
-
- (B) Since dBASE IV writes boot sector information to the hard
- disk boot sector each time it is executed, all hard disk write
- protection programs (such as, CPAV and VSAFE) or hard disk
- access control cards, give a warning whenever dBASE IV is
- executed.
-
- The PCRX Sensor has resolved such inconveniences. Since
- dBASE IV writes the exact same content back to the boot sector,
- it does not cause any damage or change your system. Therefore
- the PCRX Sensor will NOT give an unneccessary warning of such
- actions.
-
-
- (3) Compatibility with Virus Removal Programs
-
- When virus removal programs (e.g., McAfee Associates CLEAN or
- ALWIL Software Vguard) clean an infected file, they reverse
- the file to remove the virus codes, just like the virus originally
- reversed the file to include the virus codes. The PCRX Sensor
- program detects this "reversal" as a virus and identifies the
- virus removal program as a virus.
-
- Solution: (a) Before running any virus removal programs, please
- turn the PCRX Sensor off or
- (b) Select [C] to Continue when the following warning
- screen appears:
-
- ------------------PCRX Warning-------------------
- | A:VGUARD.EXE |
- | The above file is a virus carrier. |
- | |
- | B:Jer-b.exe |
- | The above file might have been infected. |
- | |
- | [S]-Solution [C]-Continue |
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- Conflicts between virus intercept programs, such as the PCRX Sensor
- and virus removal programs, are common and difficult to avoid.
-
-
- (4) Compatibility with DR DOS 5.0
-
- PCRX has a compatibility problem with EMM386.SYS in DR DOS 5.0
- when the /BDOS option is used. Before installing PCRX, remove
- this option from CONFIG.SYS. This problem does not exit for
- HIDOS.SYS in DR DOS 5.0 or EMM386.SYS in DR DOS 6.0.
-
-
- (5) Detection of Boot Sector Viruses Under Windows
-
- When PCRX detects a boot sector virus on a floppy under Windows,
- PCRX generates a warning sound without a message,
- allowing the system to continue normal operation. You may
- press any key to continue access to the floppy's files or for
- safty sake, remove the infected floppy from the drive.
-
-
- (6) Number of Detected Viruses
-
- (i) PCRXSCAN and PCRX/Virus Scan detect 923 viruses, including
- 32 Boot Viruses and 891 File Viruses. This number includes
- variants of viruses.
-
- (ii) The PCRX Sensor is designed to detect all possible viruses,
- both existing and future ones.
-
-

-
- (8) Compatibility with STACKER program
-
- STACKER is a disk compress program from Stac Electronics,
- this program has a minor conflict with PCRX sensor 's
- boot sector check if the PCRX programs are Stackered.
-
- To use PCRX together with Stacker, please DO NOT stacker
- the booting drive (which is C drive normally), and install PCRX
- to the booting drive.
-
-
- (9) Nortan Utilities's CALIBRATE.EXE program
-
- The CALIBRATE.EXE in the Nortan Utilities Package
- will modify the hard disk boot sector when executed,
- you may select [C]-Continue when PCRX warns about
- CALIBRATE.EXE is trying to modify the hard disk boot sector,
- or use PCCICFG.EXE to adjust the PCRX Sensitivity to
- turn off the Hard Disk Boot/Partition Write Protect before
- executing CALIBRATE.EXE.
