- CELEM CACHE TEST V2.0
- ─────────────────────
-
- The Celem Cache Test has been developed to compare the performance of the
- memory subsystem of PC compatible mainboards.
-
- Specifically, Celem Cache Test shows the efficiency of the cache memory. The
- diagram drawn by the test gives the thruput obtained by managing a constant
- amount of memory spread in a memory space ranging from 1KB to 16MB (limited by
- the physical memory). The CCT numbers shown are directly related to the
- MB/Sec.
-
- For a non-cache system, the time spent is independent of the memory space size
- and depends on the CPU clock, bus width, processor type, memory organization
- (page and interleave mode), refresh overhead and the number of wait-states.
-
- For a cache system, the time spent is a function of the memory space size. If
- the space fits into the cache, the time is very short. The time increases as
- the space size overflows the cache. For large memory spaces (more than two
- times the cache size) the time becomes constant. For a small memory space
- size, the time depends mainly on the cache memory access time and the
- performance of the cache controller.
-
-
-
- Celem Cache Test indicates the CPU type, clock rate, and bus width. The clock
- rate is based on the time required to do integer multiplications. The value
- is given with an accuracy of ±0.5 MHz and is subject to small variations due
- to system design.
-
- Test are done in 16 and 32 bits. For true 32 bits, the results are quite
- different, being almost twice as fast in 32 bits. For pseudo 32 bits machines
- (for example Intel 386SX and Cyrix 486SLC), there is no much difference
- between 16 and 32 bit. This is because on these machines 32 bits transfer are
- actually done with two 16 bit memory accesses.
-
- Note that version CCT386 is a 32 bit program, using a DOS extender. To use it,
- you actually need at least a 386SX CPU with 1MB of extended memory. Be sure to
- let CCT386 use this extended memory: remove any ram disk, disk cache program
- or EMS simulator.
-
- There are some command line switches, please enter CCT386 HELP to get an
- explanation about them.
