  3. APRS consists of the APRSxxx.EXE file along with dozens of .MAP and .HST files.
  4. Everything is ZIPPED up into a single APRSxxx.ZIP file.  Included on this disk
  5. is also a copy of PKUNZIP to allow you to unsip the file onto your disk.  Once
  6. you Unzip it, and if you want to reduce space, you might consider deleting some
  7. of the track history files which are nice demo's, but not necessary for APRS.

  9. TO INSTALL APRS on your SYSTEM:              DOSprompt COMMAND

  11. 1.  Create an APRS directory on drive C    - C:>       MD APRS
  12. 2.  Change Directory into that directory   - C:>       CD APRS
  13. 3.  Put DISTRO disk into B and select drive- C:\APRS>  B:
  14. 4.  Unzip the APRSxxx.zip file onto C      - B:>       PKUNZIP APRSxxx.ZIP C:
  15. 5.  Change to C drive and execute APRSxxx  - C:\APRS>  APRSxxx
  16.     a. Give your call and other info as prompted.
  17.     b. Move cursor to your exact QTH using arrow keys and PgDn (shft-PgDN)
  18.     c. Hit INSert key and answer QTH questions
  19.     *. Alternatively to b & c, use ^F to enter your Lat/Lon directly
  20.     d. Use V command to enter your validation number
  21.     e. Use ctrl-V to set your VIA Digipeater path (needs TNC to be connected)
  22.     f. Move and center map to your area of interest and prefered range scale
  23.     g. Save a config file using alt-C  (repeat steps e - g at anytime)
  24.     h. Have fun! READ all the README.xxx files!

  26. If there are any other files on your APRS distro disk, then they are newer than
  27. those in the ZIPped file.  IF PKUNZIP detects these new files and asks if you
  28. want to overwrite them, answer NO.  Otherwise, after PKUNZIP has placed every-
  29. thing in your APRS directory, copy these newer files (probably maps or updated
  30. readme files) from the distro disk into your APRS directory over the old ones.

  32. Version 3.05 explodes to 1.6Mb mostly due to README and MAP files.  The minimum
  33. system only uses APRSxxx.EXE, MAPLIST.MAP, and USA.MAP which fit in 250K.
