- RACONTEX can be run from read-only media if desired. This can include CD ROM,
- write-protected disks or LAN directories to which you do not have write access
- or to which you do not wish to write. For the "reader" engine, RACONTEX.EXE
- no special steps are necessary, just treat the directory like any other.
-
- The loader/indexer suite of programs cannot, of course, operate on read-only
- media, since they are creating files. The programs may, however, reside on
- read-only media. To achieve this, set as current directory a drive and
- directory to which you have read/write access. Connect the read-only directory
- to this directory using the DOS append command:
-
- APPEND drive:\directory /X:ON /PATH:ON
-
- where drive:\directory is the location of the program and default data files.
-
- The append may later be cancelled by using the commmand APPEND ; (don't
- forget the semicolon.)
-
- The version on the read-only media may be the "unregistered" demonstrator
- version, including a "key file" LICENCE.PGF which sets that status. To operate
- in registered mode, the registered version of LICENCE.PGF should be placed in
- the current directory, to override the file from the appended directory.
-
- Similarly, the default STOPWORD file of words not to be indexed may be
- overriden by placing a file of the same name in the current directory. For
- version 3.24 and later, the file of "delimiters", DELIMIT may be similarly
- overridden (for earlier versions, the delimiters were embedded in the file
- INDEX.BAT which could not be changed in read-only mode).
