  3. What is KickOff?
  4. ----------------
  5. KickOff is a program and file launcher which uses a hierarchy of popup 
  6. menus to organize your applications.  The menus display an icon as well 
  7. as a description for each item, and they take up no space on your 
  8. desktop until you ask for them.  Once you have selected an item, the 
  9. menus disappear until you need them again.

  11. What is KickEdit?
  12. -----------------
  13. KickEdit is the KickOff menu editor.  It is a highly intuitive, what you 
  14. see is what you get, editor with a full drag and drop interface.  Along 
  15. with the ability to manually create groups and items, it can also create 
  16. menu groups from program manager and accept files dropped from File 
  17. Manager.  You will use it whenever you want to change your menu layout.

  19. Shareware Notice
  20. ----------------
  21. KickOff and KickEdit are Shareware, and therefore are not free.  You may
  22. evaluate them for a reasonable time, but if you decide to continue using 
  23. the software, you must register.  Be sure to read the License and Warranty
  24. topic in the KickOff help file before using this software.

  34. Installing Kickoff
  35.    1.  If you are installing KickOff for the first time, create a new 
  36.        directory for the files.  A suggested name might be 'C:\KICKOFF', 
  37.        but you are free to choose what ever you want.  If you have an 
  38.        older version of kickoff installed, you will just use the same 
  39.        directory that the older version is installed in.
  40.    2.  Copy all of the files (listed above) into the KickOff directory.
  41.    3.  Add KICKOFF.EXE, and KICKEDIT.EXE to a group in Program Manager.  
  42.        If you are not sure how to do this, consult the Program Manager 
  43.        Help on adding new items.
  44.    4.  If you want KickOff to be available everytime you start Windows, 
  45.        add KICKOFF.EXE to the Program Manager Startup group.

  47. Creating your first menus
  48. -------------------------
  49. If you are installing KickOff for the first time, you will need to define
  50. your menus before you can use them.  Fortunately, KickEdit will help you 
  51. if you wish, by offering to create an initial set of menus from your 
  52. Program Manager groups.  These menus won't be pretty, but you can customize
  53. and rearrange them to make them suit your tastes.  To create your first 
  54. menus, follow these steps:
  55.  
  56.    1.  Start the KickOff menu editor (KICKEDIT.EXE).
  57.    2.  Upon noticing that there are no menus currently defined, your will 
  58.        be prompted whether you want to create your initial menus from the 
  59.        Program Manager groups.  Your response to this is up to you.  
  60.  
  61.       If you choose Yes, 
  62.          Every single Program Manager group will be added to the main 
  63.          menu automatically.  
  64.  
  65.       If you choose No, 
  66.          You will be presented with a menu with a single item in it.  
  67.          You can then add Program Manager groups individually using 
  68.          the Edit | Program Manager menu option.
  69.  
  70.    3.  Move, rearrange groups, change properties, customize to your 
  71.        hearts content.
  72.    4.  When you have the menus looking the way you want them, choose the 
  73.        Save option in the File menu to save your changes.  If KickOff is 
  74.        already running, you will be asked if you want the changes to update
  75.        the running menus (In this case choose Yes).
  76.    5.  If it is not already running, start KickOff (KICKOFF.EXE) and begin 
  77.        using your menus.

  80. above procedures.
