  1. To install Windows Commander, just unzip all files into one temporary 
  2. directory and run install. Then you can delete the temporary dir with all
  3. its files.

  5. What is Windows Commander?
  6.  
  7. Windows Commander is a file manager for Windows  similar to the Windows file
  8. manager WINFILE.EXE. But Windows Commander uses a different approach: it has two
  9. fixed windows like a well-known file manager for DOS.

  11. Here some key features of Windows Commander:
  12.  
  13. - Keyboard functions similar to the DOS original.
  14. - Supports Drag & Drop with the mouse, including to the print manager.
  15. - Extended copying, moving, renaming and deleting of entire trees 
  16.   (Enables deleting "full" directories")
  17. - Archives are handled like subdirectories. You can easily copy files
  18.   to and from archives. The appropriate archiver program is automatically
  19.   called. Pkzip, arj and lha are all supported.
  20. - Start-menu (User-defined commands) to place your frequently used DOS and
  21.   Windows programs into a drop down menu. The actual directory and/or the file
  22.   under the cursor can be handed over to the application.
  23. - Command line for the simple starting of programs with parameters, simply
  24.   by typing the program name or by pressing CTRL+ENTER or CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.
  25. - Enhanced search function with full text search in any files across multiple
  26.   drives
  27. - Built in file viewer (F3) to view files of ANY SIZE in hex, binary or text
  28.   format, using either the ASCII- (DOS) or the ANSI- (Windows) character set.
  29. - NEW: Internal Unzip by Info-Zip, which allows unzipping without calling an
  30.   external program! The source code in Turbo-Pascal is free and can be obtained
  31.   directly from the author.

  40. Removing Windows Commander: If you remove the program, also delete the files
  41. wincmd.ini and noclose.pif in your Windows directory!

  43. Installation BY HAND: Just copy the files to a directory on your hard disk.
  44. Rename the file install.bin to install.zip and unzip it with pkunzip. Then
  45. move all files with the extension .pif into your Windows directory. Place
  46. the file ctl3d.dll in your windows\system directory.
