  2.                           Introduction
  3.  
  4. The File Find helps you find files on your hard drive (or network
  5. volume) by searching for all files that match the specification
  6. you enter.  Unlike other programs, however, File Find searched
  7. the file name for the characters you enter regardless of where
  8. they appear in the name (or extension).
  9.  
  10. For example, if you search for "HQ" all of the following files
  11. will be located:
  12.  
  13.      HQINFO.TXT
  14.      ABOUTHQ1.DBF
  15.      PROJECT.HQ2
  16.  
  17. Notice that the position of the letters HQ are not important. 
  18. The entire file name and extension are always searched.
  19.  
  20.                       File Find Evaluation
  21. You are granted a 15 day evaluation period to try File Find.  If
  22. you use it after this evaluation period you must register it. 
  23. Please see the on-line help system for details about the license
  24. agreement and  the registration process.

  26.                       Initial Installation
  27. This program is provided in one of two forms.  It is either part
  28. of the TARDIS Applications diskette or can be downloaded
  29. individually from CompuServe or other BBS systems.

  31. Diskette
  32. If the program is provided on diskette and you have used the
  33. diskette's install program, the software has already been
  34. installed and program manager icons created.  You can begin using
  35. it immediately.  Please see the section "Running for the first
  36. time."

  38. Download
  39. If you downloaded this file you should follow the instructions
  40. below.   The program is provided as a self-extracting executable
  41. file.  Just follow the instructions below to install the program
  42. on your hard drive.  You MUST already have a copy of the Visual
  43. Basic 3.0 runtime DLL VBRUN300.DLL.  It must be installed in your
  44. Windows \SYSTEM directory.  If you do not have this file you can
  45. download it from the Microsoft Visual Basic forum on CompuServe. 
  46. This file is not included with File Find.
  47.  
  48.    1.Choose a drive and directory on which you want to install
  49.      File Find.  If the directory does not exist you must create
  50.      it now.
  51.    2.Copy the File Find self extracting executable (FFIND.EXE)
  52.      into the directory.
  53.    3.Make a backup of this file for safe keeping.  You will
  54.      delete this file later.
  55.    4.Change to the File Find directory.
  56.    5.Type the command FFIND.  This uncompresses the files into
  57.      the current directory.
  58.    6.Delete the file FFIND.EXE.  It is no longer used.  Make sure
  59.      you make a backup per step 3 above.
  60.    7.Check the directory for any files with a .DLL or .VBX
  61.      extension.  If any files matching this description exist
  62.      they should be copied to your Windows \SYSTEM directory and
  63.      then deleted from the File Find directory.
  64.    8.Create a Program Manager icon for File Find and link it to
  65.      the EXE file FILEFIND.EXE.
  66.    9.Please see the section "Running for the first time."
  67.                    Running for the First Time
  68.    1.Start the program by double clicking the new File Find icon
  69.      in Program Manager.
  70.    2.Since this is the first time you are running this program
  71.      you are prompted for your Company Name, Your Name, Phone
  72.      Number, and optionally your CIS ID (not password).  This
  73.      information is saved for future reference.  The serial
  74.      number is assigned and the registration reminder screen
  75.      displays.  (This screen will never display after you
  76.      register the program).
  77.    3.To access the on-line help system (which contains important
  78.      information about the operation and license agreement  for
  79.      File Find), click on the "About TARDIS" icon, and then click
  80.      on the question mark icon.
  81.    4.A file with the .REG extension is created in the same
  82.      directory as File Find.  This file contains your name and
  83.      phone number and is used during the registration process. 
  84.      It contains important information and should not be deleted.
  85.    5.Installation is complete.
