- INTRODUCTION:
- ─────────────
- Welcome, and thank you for purchasing MENU MASTER. MENU MASTER was created
- to help you harness the full power of the OS/2 operating system without the
- need for the workplace shell.
-
- Why Menu Master.
- ────────────────
-
- Originally Menu Master was developed for one or our corporate clients who
- wanted the power of OS/2 but did not want all of their personnel to have
- access to the full desktop. Many of their users had a limited number of
- tasks that they were resposible for and a basic text based menu system
- was all that was required. These users still needed the real power of OS/2
- which is based on the kernel and not necessarily on the WPS. The features
- of OS/2 namely, the sophisticated memory management mechanism, the 32 bit
- flat memory model, protected mode multi-tasking, full screen Dos and OS/2
- sessions, PM sessions, windowed Dos and OS/2 sessions, and WINOS2 sessions
- are all available without the full WPS.
-
- Since its original design many others, with limited memory resources, have
- found that running with a text based menuing system allows them to run very
- effectively with little or no strain on their resources.
-
- Menu Master offers you the "best of all worlds" in that you may run from a
- text based menu and, if necessary, you may at will bring up and shut down
- the full WPS with just the touch of a key.
-
- OS/2 is perhaps the most flexible operating system that the micro industry
- has ever seen and we feel that Menu Master will help you to tap into some
- of that flexibility.

- EVALUATION RELEASE:
- ───────────────────
- The evaluation copy of MENU MASTER is fully functional. The only constraint
- is that it is date sensitive and may not be used after 9-15-93.
-
- Registered users will be supplied with the procedure for backing up and
- restoring their customized MENU settings when installing the registered
- version.
-
- TRADEMARKS:
- ───────────
- All product names and services identified in this document are trademarks or
- registered trademarks of their respective companies.
-
- REQUIREMENTS: Any OS/2 version
- ─────────────
- Although MENU MASTER will function with any OS/2 version from 1.0 to the
- current 2.1 GA, it is most effective with the OS/2 2.x versions. This
- is primarily due to the unique way that 2.x works in relation to the work
- place shell.

- If you are a RESELLER you may purchase E.E.S.I. products by:
-
- Mailing us the completed qualification form appearing at the end
- of this document to the address specified on it. After we receive
- your properly completed qualification form we will send you a
- reseller package which includes information necessary to order all
- E.E.S.I. products.
-
- Reseller Qualifier:
- ───────────────────
-
- E.E.S.I. thanks you for your interest in reselling our products! Our
- screening process protects your business by making it simple for
- legitimate applicants to establish reseller status, and preventing end-
- users from obtaining reseller discounts. We require a copy of your
- currently valid reseller's permit, your currently valid sales tax
- identification certificate for your state, or your currently valid goods
- and services tax certificate for your country, simply supplying the
- reseller number is NOT sufficient. To confirm that you are a reseller of
- computer products and/or services, we require a copy of promotional
- material from you. This is sufficient to establish reseller status with
- us, and much simpler than filling out an elaborate dealer agreement. When
- mailed to us we will accept any of the following as promotional material:
- - Your company brochure for a product you design, manufacture, or sell.
- It is not adequate to just draw something up on your computer and
- print it out on your printer.
- - Or, a page from a recent newspaper, magazine, Yellow Pages, or other
- publication showing an advertisement for your company and it's
- products.
- - Or, a photocopy of your company name and phone number from a
- computer-oriented section of The Yellow Pages. This does not need to
- be an actual advertisement the basic listing which the phone company
- provides, provided it is in a computer oriented section, is adequate.

- The information on the right side of the screen is a snapshot of your
- current menu settings.
-
- You will be asked to furnish a Menu ID number.
-
- Your response should be any number from 1 - 9.
-
- The next screen to appear will be screen 2, see above layout. You
- will note that screen number 1 remains for reference purposes.
-
- The items that can be changed are as follows:
-
- NAME = Menu name up to 8 charachters.
-
- NEXT = The next menu in the chain (range 1 - 9).

-
- SECURITY MAINTENANCE SYSTEM
-
- ENTER TX IS (A)dd (D)elete (C)hange (I)nquire (Q)uit:.
-
-
- Selecting the letter "Q" from the main menu allows one access to the
- password security system.
- Options are as follows:
- Add
- Delete
- Change
- Inquire
- Quit
-
- The above option fields are self explanatory. One should know that user
- authorization is denoted by numerical values 0 or 1. A value of 0 allows
- one access to maintenance functions, whereas a value of 1 restricts it.
- When choosing the Add option function, one of the entries will ask for an
- auto off value. You have the choice of the following two replies:
-
- a) Entering a value of 9 will inhibit the auto logoff function for that
- user.
-
- b) No value specified will cause that user to be auto logged off after 10
- minutes of inactivity. The auto logoff time factor is adjustable via
- the -t option in the MENUMA.CMD file.

- EXAMPLE SETUPS:
- ───────────────
- In addition to the below examples one should reference the various entries
- in the Test menu to obtain further examples. Please note that these are
- just examples we've included and in no way are they meant to represent the
- full capability of MENU MASTER.
-
- The examples provided by MENU MASTER make extensive use of the OS/2 Start
- facility, and the startd program command written by Norm Ross.
-
- One of the problems when using a text based shell with OS/2 is the ability
- to set the various settings for Dos jobs. This limitation is handled by
- several freeware packages that are generally available. We have included
- STARTD by Norm Ross with our examples. Please refer to the START.DOC that
- is included.
-
- Note: Most OS/2 and Dos programs can be run from the start command, however
- if one requires certain Dos settings, STARTD must be used.
-
- Example 1.
- Explanation of Dos Special setup:
- ─────────────────────────────────
-
- The difference in this example is in the use of the STARTD command. This
- example illustrates the use of setting up induvidual AUTOEXEC.BAT files
- for each Dos session.
-
- dosspec.cmd contents:
-
- @echo off
- startd "special" /dos /fg /k /sf dosspec.ini
-
- Note: That startd references the dosspec.ini file which is the file we use
- to pass the dos settings.
-
- dosspec.ini file contents: Note: This text must be entered in uppercase!
-
- DOS_STARTUP_DRIVE=
- DOS_BACKGROUND_EXECUTION=OFF
- DOS_AUTOEXEC=AUTOEXEC.BAT
-
- Autoexec.bat file contents:
-
- @echo off
- prompt $p$g
- echo this is a test of the DOS_AUTOEXEC setting with STARTD
- pause
-
-
-
-
-
- Page 18
-
-
- Example 2.
- Explanation of Full WPS setup:
- ──────────────────────────────
-
- This example illustrates the ability to bring up the full WPS from the
- MENU system.
-
- PMSHL.CMD contents:
-
- @echo off
- start /fs /b "full wps" /k pmshlx.cmd
-
- PMSHLX.CMD contents:
-
- @echo off
- pmshell.exe
- exit
-
- Note: This sample MENU option will bring up the full WPS along with the
- menuing system. There will be an icon on the desktop named "full wps"
- which is picked up from the first .CMD file mentioned above. When you
- are finished working with the full WPS you click on this icon and close
- it and the full WPS will go away and you will be left with the menuing
- system.
-
- We feel that this option might be useful for those users who may want to
- have access to the full WPS on occasion.
