  31.  
  32. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  33. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  34. register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
  35. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  36. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
  37. software to an updated program and a printed manual.

  39. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  40. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  41. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  42. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  43. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  44. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  45. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  46. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  47. copy their Shareware.

  49. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  50. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  51. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  52. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  53. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  54. product, you don't pay for it.

  118.                  Installing Professional Capture Systems
  119.  
  120. Before you can use the Professional Capture Systems you have to run the setup
  121. program from DOS or Windows so it will work properly on your computer.
  122.  
  123. You cannot just copy the files from the Professional Capture Systems disk to
  124. your hard disk. The files on the distribution disk are packed in a special
  125. way to save space. The setup program unpacks those files and builds them on
  126. your working disk.

  128. Installation from within Microsoft Windows
  129.  
  130. 1.  Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  131.  
  132. 2.  From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then select "Run".
  133.     This will open the "Run" dialog box.
  134.  
  135.     Place the copy of Professional Capture Systems in your floppy drive.
  136.     Now, the dialog box needs for you to type in the command that will run
  137.     the Professional Capture Systems installation program.
  138.  
  139.     * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  140.     A:SETUP
  141.     Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  142.     button (or press "Enter").
  143.  
  144.     * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  145.     B:SETUP
  146.     Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  147.     button (or press "Enter").
  148.  
  149. 3.  Fill in the required information in the dialog box.
  150.  
  151.     * It will ask you for the "Source Drive and Directory" designation where
  152.     your Professional Capture Systems floppy disk is located.  (This is the
  153.     same floppy drive designation you typed in the previous step before the
  154.     word "setup".)
  155.  
  156.     * It will ask you for the hard disk "Destination Drive and Directory"
  157.     designation on which you want it to install Professional Capture Systems.
  158.     It will suggest a directory named "C:\PCS".
  159.  
  160.     If you want the Professional Capture Systems program files installed on a
  161.     different drive or directory, just click the pointer to the right of the
  162.     characters you want to change, backspace over the ones you want to erase,
  163.     then type in the new designation.
  164.  
  165.     * It will automatically build a Professional Capture Systems icon and
  166.     add it to "Program Manager".  Accept the "Yes" (already selected by
  167.     default) if you do want it to do this. Select "No" if you do not.
  168.  
  169. 4.  Professional Capture Systems Setup will unpack the necessary files (for
  170.     both WinCapture and DosCapture) and place them into your directory.
  171.  
  172. 5.  Professional Capture Systems Setup will notify you when the installation
  173.     is completed.

  181. 1.  Place the copy of Professional Capture Systems in your floppy drive.
  182.     Now, at the DOS prompt you will need to type in the command that will
  183.     run the Professional Capture Systems installation program.

  191. 2.  If the setup program cannot find the file PCS.CMP, it will ask you for
  192.     the drive and directory where it can be found.  If the setup program
  193.     finds PCS.CMP this step will be skipped. If you are asked for the drive
  194.     and directory, you should type in the drive name followed by a colon
  195.     and slash and then the directory. The following is an example.

  198. 3.  The setup program will ask you for the hard disk "Destination Drive
  199.     and Directory" designation on which you want it to install Professional
  200.     Capture Systems.

  202. 4.  Professional Capture Systems Setup will unpack the necessary files (for
  203.     both WinCapture and DosCapture) and place them into your directory.

  205. 5.  Professional Capture Systems Setup will notify you when the installation
  206.     is completed.

  213. The user's manual is one of the files that will be unpacked and placed on
  214. your working disk when you run the SETUP program. The file is PCS.TXT.
  215. It is a text file.
