- NOTE FOR NETWORK USERS:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- We have learned of a serious problem that recent versions of CMFiler
- have experienced on a particular Novell Netware 2.12 network. When the
- "Wipe file" option on the Shift-O user options menu was set to Yes on this
- particular network, both the target _and_ source files being copied were
- completely obliterated by the wipe overwrite string "cfcfcf..." when
- copying on the network drives.
-
- We have not been able to locate the cause of this problem, nor reproduce
- it on the Novell 3.11 we have access to, but have been working with the
- network administrator to understand the behavior and the possible causes.
- We have never observed this anomaly nor has it ever been reported for any
- standalone computer or other network. We suspect a bug in one of the drivers
- in this particular network's configuration; however we have been able to rule
- out the possibility of a bug in CMFiler or a heretofore unnoticed
- incompatibility with Novell netwares.
-
- As a safety measure until this destructive behavior is understood and
- corrected, we have disabled the feature that wipes the old copies of files
- in the target path prior to creating the new copy.
-
- Our sincerest apologies if this has caused any problems on other networks.
- If you are a network administrator, please inform us of your experience
- with the "Wipe file" feature, positive or negative, and tell us the
- brand and version of your network software.
