  5. The following is a list of changes in WinZip 5.0a.  For a list of
  6. changes in earlier versions see the section titled "Version
  7. History" in the online help.

  9. Enhancements include:
  10.  
  11. - Built-in ZIP and UNZIP are faster.
  12.  
  13. - The CheckOut dialog box now has an option to create icons for
  14.   programs and documents only, rather than for all files in an
  15.   archive.
  16.  
  17. - You can drag and drop an entire archive by dragging from the
  18.   status line.
  19.  
  20. Compatibility issues addressed are:
  21.  
  22. - Norton Desktop for Windows 3.0:  The new FileAssist feature
  23.   moves controls in the WinZip 5.0 Add dialog box so that they
  24.   overlay each other.  WinZip 5.0a prevents this behavior.  It
  25.   also works around a problem where FileAssist interferes with the
  26.   "Add Dialog" check box in the WinZip 5.0 New dialog box.
  27.   Earlier versions of NAVW required the /auto parameter for
  28.   automated scanning.  Unfortunately, the new version of NAVW
  29.   always scans all drives when /auto is used, so WinZip no longer
  30.   suggests /auto as a default parameter unless the old version of
  31.   NAVW is detected.  Archives created by NDW that contain
  32.   directory information use a backslash instead of the standard
  33.   slash; WinZip 5.0a handles this.

  35. - Central Point Desktop 1.0:  the recently posted updates in the
  36.   CPSWIN forum create ZIP files with header information that do
  37.   not conform to PKWARE's ZIP specification.  This version of
  38.   WinZip works around this incompatibility.

  40. - Icon Hear It 1.0:  early releases of "Icon Hear It" prevent
  41.   other applications from receiving ToolHelp notifications.  This
  42.   behavior prevents WinZip 5.0 from detecting when an external
  43.   viewer is closed.  To work around this WinZip 5.0a includes
  44.   extra checks to determine when viewers are closed.  These extra
  45.   checks also make it possible for WinZip to detect when the user
  46.   closes the file being viewed in an MDI application without
  47.   closing the whole application.

  49. The following minor changes and fixes were made:
  50.  
  51. - If the "Always on Top" option is selected it is temporarily
  52.   turned off while viewing help (so that the help window is not
  53.   obscured by WinZip).
  54.  
  55. - Added Ctrl+Y as an accelerator for the "Always On Top" entry in
  56.   the System menu.
  57.  
  58. - If the Program Manager is maximized the CheckOut feature will
  59.   leave it maximized.
  60.  
  61. - A more descriptive error message is issued if unzip operation
  62.   cannot create a directory because a file with the directory name
  63.   already exists.
  64.  
  65. - Corrected the hot spots in the drag and drop cursors.
  66.  
  67. - The correct font size is now always saved.
  68.  
  69. - International support improvements and fixes:  date formats with
  70.   year first are supported, appropriate "thousands" and "time"
  71.   separators are used, and filenames and directory names with
  72.   international characters are now always handled correctly.
  73.  
  74. - Added status line message "you must add files before using this
  75.   entry" in the appropriate places.
  76.  
  77. - Added "H" accelerator to all Help push buttons.
  78.  
  79. - "Log To Drive" in configuration dialog box now has an
  80.   accelerator.
  81.  
  82. - The "Save Extra Directory Info" checkbox in the Add dialog box
  83.   now causes WinZip to include the directory information in files
  84.   selected in the "Select Files" listbox.
  85.  
  86. - The "Make EXE File" action creates a "large model" SFX when an
  87.   LZH file contains subdirectories.
  88.  
  89. - File Info dialog box uses Configuration uppercase/lowercase
  90.   setting.
  91.  
  92. - Added warning messages when trying to create archives that
  93.   already exist and trying to open archives that do not exist.
  94.  
  95. - Text in "WinZip is waiting for %s to complete" dialog box now
  96.   fits on a VGA screen.
  97.  
  98. - Pressing enter in the main WinZip window no longer resets the
  99.   selection to the first item.

  101. - Tables and lists in the online help look better.
