  17. amount of questions being asked time and time again on usenet.  I do not
  18. participate in any illegal activities and have written this due to the
  19. increasing demand of questions being asked by people searching for
  20. information.

  22. Introduction:
  23. After all the questions being asked on usenet I have written this document
  24. to answer some of the most common questions about 'chipped' phones.  The
  25. answers to the questions are correct to my own knowledge however I am no
  26. expert and welcome comments.  I have also included some rumours and facts
  27. about these phones.  This document does not describe everything about
  28. chipped mobiles but will answer the more frequent questions.

  31. What is a chipped phone?
  32. A chipped phone is a mobile phone that has been fitted with a chip that
  33. resets the credit balance on phone every time it is turned on.

  36. Can my <phone name> be chipped?
  37. The only phones that can be chipped are C12's and Digas. These use the
  38. BTCellnet network and use two different tariffs, "Pay & Go" and "U".  There
  39.  
  40. are other exploits on different networks such as Vodafone and One to One
  41. but
  42. the BTCellnet 'chipping' exploit has received much more attention.

  44. 3.
  45. Will I need to top up my chipped C12/Diga?
  46. YES! READ THE FUCKIN' MANUAL YOU GOT WITH THE PHONE!  If you do not top up
  47. your phone with ú15 of credit every 60 days on 'Pay & Go', ú10 every 90
  48. days
  49. with 'U', you will be disconnected from the network.  That means you will
  50. be
  51. unable to make any calls until you top up.

  54. How do I top up? What is this I have heard about the alarm?
  55. To top up on the diga just buy your legitimate top up and activate it as if
  56.  
  57. you had a normal phone.
  58. On the C12 you need to...
  59. turn the alarm on.
  60. turn the phone off and back on.
  61. make the top up by holding hot key 3.
  62. Wait for the "top up successful message"
  63. turn the alarm off and turn the phone off.
  64. turn the phone back on.

  66. By turning the alarm on you turn the chip off.

  69. What are the chances of BT finding out it is 'chipped'?
  70. As long as you top up your phone every few weeks you should have no problem
  71.  
  72. remaining connected to the network.  However if you spend 40 hours on your
  73. phone and yet never make a top up that will seem strange to the employers
  74. at
  75. Cellnet.  The trick is to make it seem like you are a legit customer.

  78. What happens if I have been disconnected?
  79. (Turn the alarm on if you use a c12) Phone the customer care line (hot key
  80. 9
  81. on c12) and tell them you have been disconnected.  Pretend to be angry and
  82. frustrated at this as a normal customer would be.  They should then ask you
  83.  
  84. for a land line number but pretend this (your mobile you are calling from)
  85. is your only phone at the moment.  Hopefully they will reconnect you and
  86. say
  87. 'sorry'. This method WILL usually work and has been done many times
  88. successfully.

  91. What will happen if I get caught?
  92. In almost all cases your phone will be disconnected after a few months but
  93. by that time you have proberly made hundreds of ú worth of calls.  However
  94. if for some reason they track you down you may face much more harsh
  95. punishment.  Think of the thousands of chipped mobile users, how long and
  96. how much money would it cost to track each one of them?

  98. 8.Where is the C12/diga hex code available free from?
  99. The net cleaners have a copy of the hex code for the c12/diga and many
  100. other
  101. mobiles on their website.  You can download it free from...

  105. Where can I get a chipped phone from?
  106. There are many people selling chipped mobiles all over the UK via the
  107. internet, look at alt.2600, alt.ph.uk, etc.  Otherwise you could ask a
  108. friend or relative that knows about electronics to help you out.

  111. What is a reasonable price?
  112. The phone costs between ú40/ú70 and the chip itself costs between ú2/ú15
  113. depending on where your supplier gets it. That means in total the price of
  114. the phone all together will be at most ú80/ú85.  A usual price is ú120 but

  116. have seen prices as low as ú90 and high as ú175+.

  119. Which phone is better the C12 or Diga?
  120. The C12 is the newer model and is much more slim.  It is better than all
  121. the
  122. other Prepay mobiles I have seen around at the moment.  Try and get the C12
  123.  
  124. on the 'U' tariff.
